Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And take the hidden paths that run...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Yer not the only one. I loved Hee Haw. We used to watch it all the time. That and Laugh-In.

Yes, but I knew those people on Hee Haw. Heck I was probably related to half of 'em.

I'm reminded of a song on a tape we had when I was a kid all about how this chicken wouldn't lay eggs so they'd try various things - "poured hot water up and down her legs/and the little chicken cried and the little chicken begged/and that gosh-darned chicken laid a hard-boiled egg".
About as close to chickens as I like to get is Corin's picture there.

I'm old enough to remember getting baby chicks for Easter. You'd buy them at the dime store and they'd dyed them Easter colors.
My Mom says they didn't live long. But I'm fairly certain a couple ended up in grandpa's chicken coop.

My brother had a pet rabbit. Kept it in a cage my dad built. I think it froze to death.
Wife's sister had a pet rabbit too. We have pictures of Jr. holding it when he was little. But she was allergic to it and had to give it away.
I've been thinking of getting a "pet" for Sam and Abby...

We had guinea pigs once - most boring creatures ever. They just sat there and ate. Took years to die, too.
My sister has had hamsters, gerbils, and now rats. The hamsters were cute but kept getting cancer. The rats are ugly little beasts but she likes 'em.
And then there's the brother with the dumb conyer - literally dumb, it's supposed to speak but it doesn't. I think we should have taken it back for a refund.
