That makes sense! And it'll be vey nice if it's so! I haven't taken much vacation since last Entmoot...just a day or two here or there. I have close to three weeks worth of hours saved up...

I'll likely have to take a few to deal with the move, but still!

An extra paycheck-and-a-half! Pretty nice!

Sounds like that's what's the standard all around...I was hoping that was the case, but thinking it likely couldn't be!

All right...likely won't even hafta touch the house money for gasoline for the trip! Kewl...

I think I cashed in about 60 hours when I quit to move here. Helped quite a bit with the moving expenses!

Yah... that's pretty standard.

Many companies "cap" vacation for just that reason... people don't take vacation, and end up accruing lots of hours at one rate, then take it later at a higher rate. It really fouls up the accounting for the accrued liability when you can't accurately predict how much the hours will cost at a later date.

Back when I werked at the smaller company, we worked out an interesting system. Lots of people commonly went a couple of years without a vacation, and didn't want it capped off or get in a position to "use it or lose it". I helped make a system where we accrued vacation *dollars* instead of hours. You earned it at your existing rate, and burned it at your current rate at the time. This let us correctly allow for the accrued liability in any given year, let people carryover vacation across salary changes, and didn't rip anyone off.

I thought it was a clever solution.

Well, that's sure good news! Means you'll have plenty to live on while getting a job, no?

How was the jam? Anime club was hilarious... just hilarious...

Hey, that's a pretty good solution! I wish more employers would use something like that.

Well...it'll help, in any case. Like I said, it should cover the gasoline portion of travel costs.

Did I mention I really want that one job?

I'm getting a tiny bit antsy, though of course it's still fairly early. But they stopped taking applications on the 3rd...wonder how much longer it'll be before all interviewees are notified or how soon I can assume I ain't gonna make it to the next level.

Does sound like a good system.

They have a use or lose deal where I work now...but it's a pretty high amount. Over 60 days, I think. I've only got...16 or 17?

Maybe it'll take long enough that you'll be available for an in-person interview!

Eep! Didn't realize it was so late! I'm taking the day off tomorrow (using "personal" time insteada "vacation" time...we acrue both), so I can sleep in...but I'd best be getting to bed anyway! Lots to do!

After the merger... I'm one of the lucky few that got "grandfathered in" so that I never lose vacation or sick leave. Even though... now I take it at the current rate. I'm not sure but I think I can go vacation until 2006. And then I can be sick until the next Bush administration. :-)

Gee... that sounds good... :-)

Don't worry until you hear from them. Remember, it's a college, not like real life, it might take longer than you expect... and next week being our spring break, I wouldn't worry if you don't hear back next week either.

So it's almost like printing, except it engraves?

It's actually a laser that burns into the steel, fusing a spray-on coating into the pit, making it black. It does it on a pixel-by-pixel basis. The whole process takes about a second, and the design looks like white fire while it's being burned.

It reminded me of the One Ring, except our items, and the markings, are used for good.
