On Boston radio, who's the funnier host, Howie Carr or Jay Severin? Howie mentions FR all the time, on his radion show, Herald colum, and links to FR on his page. Jay Severin on the other hand seems to be at his best when taking on Hillary and Ted.
I had been listening to Jay since the first day he was on, but he recently lost me because of his incessant rants about Iraq. I don't mind him disagreeing with policy, but calling it "Iraqnam" is absolutely disrespectful to our troops. I don't care how you frame it, that's unnecessary. He talks about how much he supports the troops, but doing to that level is beyond the pale.
I think he's a phony.
During both the 2000 & 2004 elections he didn't support Bush, playing the RINO card. Unlike Rush he can't or won't come right out and say what he actually believes, he's a Kerry nuance metrosexual.
So now 50+, he's still a bachelor with two cute poodles. OK that near pedophile thing could be just an act then.
You are so right.
Jay has NEVER been aboard imo.
Right out of the box he's been throwing in crap like "let's nuke 'em". That kind of verbal bomb throwing paints conservatives into a Vietnam like corner which as you say is where he is heading.
All one has to do is compare what Jay has said in the past & what Bush has accomplished.
Jay like most LIBERALS would have you believe the war is over & that we have lost when in fact Iraq is just one battle in a much larger war both of which we are winning.
He's probably married with kids. He keeps his private life very hush hush. It's a little odd to know so little about a public person.
I have never heard this Carr fellow, but I can tell you Jay is NOT funny. He is also not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. He is boring, pompous, arrogant and stuck up. He is also a supporter of legalizing drugs which is something that all intelligent people know would destroy this country. So In other words, he sucks.
I believe that Jay helped Romney get elected. Jay did not help Bush get elected though.
If you want funny then listen to Glenn Beck. Now he is funny.
I have been lukewarm on Bush at times (e.g., steel tariffs) but all the Democrats are SO MUCH WORSE. (Pardon my shouting.)
Howie can get awfully lame, like when he's completely out of gas and runs a "Who[m] would you like to see nakid in TV segment?" but nowadays that only sends me over to 1150 AM (Hugh Hewitt).
Jay is well spoken, rarely rants and makes a nice first impression. But he's awfully anodyne and it doesn't take long for him to put to sleep.
The coments that Jay makes, especially regarding "Korean girls" are very immature, not what a grown-up would say, not even a teenager would talk like that. It's like he makes this effort to point out that he is "hetronormative"
I think Jay is probably married or gay. While that sounds like a complete contradiction, listen to him putting stay at home moms on a pedestal. Then listen to him trying to portray himself as a single lady's man. Then stop and think that he never, ever speaks of his private life in any way shape or manner, except when referring to his dogs.
He's got a Napoleon complex to boot. He's about 5 feet tall in his heeled boots.
"Iraqnam?"
What a schmuck. Stupid too. He's the A-hole who reportedly couldn't figure out the connection between WMDs and the WoT.
I was a Masshole for about 5 years. When I lived there started out listening to Jay, but he lost me with his constant tone of defeatism and negativity. Then I switched over to Howie and found it a much more entertaining and upbeat way to spend the commute home. Howie has a great comic personna and doesn't take himself too seriously.
I can honestly say that out of a very, very small handful of things I miss about Massachusetts, listening to Howie Carr is near the top of the list.
Howie by a mile...
Howie, HOWIE, H-O-W-I-EEEEEEE!
OOUGH OOUGH,
"Heh heh heh"
"Who[m] would you like to see nakid in TV segment?"
Exactly why I like Howie!
Between that and the Chump Line, Police Blotter Fridays, the TV Guide preview, the Chris Wallace preview (which really are quite funny, they should have a show together), the occasional outing of the Combat Zone Johns, Where's Whitey all mixed in with politics both local & national makes Howie the BEST!
Howie doesn't PRETEND to be Rush, he's Howie!
Jay on the other hand thinks he is equal to Rush, he's not. Not only that his "Best & Brightest" smacks of LIBERAL ELITISM!
Jay sucks!
I would have to agree that Severin is mostly boring, more than a little arrogant and too much into sex and drugs. Aside from having a good command of the language, he's not often funny, either.
It's not just "best and brightest", it's also one of the marketing lines that the radio station has been using, where their listeners are better than AM radio listeners. This would work fine for a top 40 station. But they are talk radio, and sure their competition is on AM, but where do they think their listeners are coming from. Insulting a good part of their listeners never made any sense to me.
Howie, by far.
I love to listen to Howie, 'cause he's real. Severin is so full of himself - all about the bods he saw at the gym, and the gals at the hotel bar.
And having lived in Boston during the Irish gang wars of the 1960's, I'm fascinated by Howie's online archive of mug shots and crime scene photos!
(Howie reads FR, so: Hi Howie!)
My problem with "Who[m] would you like to see nakid on TV" is just that it's so lame. The first time, kinda cute, not he does it every time he's outta gas.
That is one of the least intelligent statements I have ever read on FR, for a number of reasons.
