I was flipping through channels on my Sirius receiver the other day when lo and behold, no Michael Savage in the normal time slot. Anyone have any idea what happened? I emailed Sirius and the only thing they say is their "contractual obligations" have changed.
This could be Sirius
Maybe Surius is OK then.... I dropped him long ago
He's still on XM, make the change dude! ;)
That's code word for "Savage is a nut".
Big Time.
I was on this on Monday. I called up Sirius and a nice fella at customer service took down my complaint and request that Savage should be back on. I noted that he is on XM.
The next day I wrote Sirius customer service about it, and I got this response:
"Thanks, we got your e-mail! At SIRIUS, we appreciate the time you have taken to contact us regarding Michael Savage. We regret to inform you that Savage Nation was cancelled because our contract with Michael Savage ran out and we were unable to renew this contract. We understand and apologize for any frustration that may be caused by this."
So I think that means that Savage & Crew wanted more $ (or Sirius wants me to think that). In any case, it is a loss - but the additon of Liddy is a good one. Actually, if Sirius got Savage back and added Medved, they would have the grand-slam of conservative lineup in Sat Radio (2 Conservative Channels and Hannity is on ABC radio).
I was going to get XM because of the MLB contract anyway (I am going to be a 2 sat radio house) - $120 a year for every MLB game is too good to pass up, in itself. Savage only seals the deal, but I LOVE the Sirius music channels.
Update: I emailed this to Savage's staff and got this VERY interesting response:
The truth is that Sirius NEVER had a contract with Dr.
Savage and had been broadcasting his show ILLEGALLY.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience and annoyances
this has caused you. For a listing of all radio
stations that air The Savage Nation in your area,

We greatly appreciate your support
Why am I not believing that? LOL
At this point, I don't know what to believe. I've only gotten vague responses when I ask Sirius.
Has Savage mentioned it? If Sirius was broadcasting Savage illegally I wonder if he has complained? Hmmm...
To my knowledge, not a word. Which seems rather odd when you consider how quickly goes on the warpath when something really gets his goat.
Yeah that's what I figured... except I've not been listening in lately to hear him say anything.
That guy sucks.
It's possible everyone is being sincere with this.
Maybe Sirius had a contract with Savage's syndicator, for example, and no direct contract with Savage. It's possible that Savage's contract with his syndicator preculdes them selling the show to another party (like Sirius) without some ok by Savage and (probably some $ in his pocket, too).
If the syndicator packaged several radio shows to Sirius (and I think they do have other shows on Sirius), it's possible that Sirius had a contract with the syndicator that wasn't valid because of a clause in Savage's contact. An oversight that came up.
So instead of paying Savage they expanded Church's show and told Savage to take a hike. That's a huge letdown for Sirius (and Savage is, evidently, still on XM). That might explain the mild venom in the Savage email and the fairly vauge language I got from Sirius.
It is perfectly consistent with Savage's character to find a problem with the Sirius deal, make noise, think he is a bigger shot than he really is, and get told to take a hike. (I say that as a pure Savagaholic).
I hope they can work something out - Savage is a great addition to Sirius, and I hope they can get him back on. That being said, Sirius has some good guys:G Gordon Liddy, Laura Ingraham, Tammy Bruce, Jerry Doyle, Sean Hannity, Mike Reagan, and to a lesser extent, Rusty Humphries shoring up their conservative lineup. Not bad at all.
I just started listening to Doc Savage's 2nd hour and he has fired his first salvo on Sat Radio - he explictly said that you should listen to him on his local stations and not on any sat radio.
I guess he feuded with Sirius over the right to carry his show, and I suspect will be doing the same with XM.
Man if XM gives up Savage I will be really disappointed!!
He is also now advocating censorship of satellite radio to, in his words, level the playing field. Does this have anything to do with Stern making fun of handicapped people since Savage had a handicapped son? More than likely. But, as disgusting as Stern is, to advocate censorship because of a personal beef?
Lately he has also been whining quite a bit about Rush and O'Reilly. Sorry but it sounds like whining to me.
If he says anything worth hearing about, let us know. I had to turn Savage off.
As of tonight, Savage is no longer on XM either.
Too sad, it's the only reason I signed up for XM in the first place. When people say what needs to be said instead of what you want to hear, they are often not too popular.
XM Radio for sale....
