I'm thinking of getting Roadrunner installed at my home, and I would like to hear from anyone who has used it before and what they think of it in terms of performance and value as compared to other Internet services. I'm used to the really good performance at my college's computer lab, but I have to graduate eventually (and thus no longer have a good excuse for putting off 24-hour access to FreeRepublic). Thanks in advance.
I had it in Brevard county FL, and it was very good, but it was also the only hi-spd available
Depends on what's available locally. I don't subscribe to cable TV so RR would cost me about $65 per month.
That's no bargain when my server offers wireless internet for $35. I try to stick with local servers if I can. They usually don't have software to bog down your system.
Some DSL packages are cheaper than RR, but I don't know how fast it is compared to RR\cable.

DSL is actually kinda of hard to get in terms of support to your area. Ironically enough for DSL to work the phone infrastructure has to be "outdated" If you have cable tv subscription usually they have some sort of package bundle deal thingy. The only determining factor for high speed Internet is pretty much price. They'll give you a lot of junk that you don't need in terms of software, and pretty much all companies have the same response time to outages. Have fun plugging into the high speed world ;)
Road Runnner is great! Never had a problem with them or their service. I do game a lot online, and need the speed. They do have a super Road Runner now also. It can be pricey($92/mo with extended basic cable), but I could never go back to dial up. You won't be sorry.
Roadrunner is great...especially since they started scanning incoming e-mail.
P.S. You don't have to install their software in order to use it.
I suppose it would depend largely upon which part of the country you happen to be.
I know that in Houston RR is dynamite. Outages are very rare and momentary and usually because of foul weather knocking out power.
Lightning fast, too.
RoadRunner is great. Pricey, but great.
I'm averaging around 1800 kbps in the north Austin area. Pricey, but worth it. Also thinking about switching phone service to lingo (broadband phone service). Anyone tried Lingo or Vonage?
Roadrunner is fabulous. It's about $40 a month where I am. It's instantaneous and not terribly expensive. Definitely worth it.
I had it in so cali, Huntington Bch. It was excellent. Very fast and very dependable.

Overall, RoadRunner seems to be pretty well rated, about 4 on a scale of 5. There might be some others in your area rated higher, or with a pricing package better suited to your specific needs.
