Since you are the one who referred to the smoker as "this kind of filth," on that I'll have to agree. As for the pizza place, had I known ahead of time how bad it was going to be, needless to say, I would have avoided that place.

I am always amazed at what possible good you smoker-rights people think you are doing. Are you making the world a better place? I think not. There is nothing to gain by smoking, nor is it a good habit or something to be emulated, desired, or coveted. It is what it is - a filthy addiction. While many people became addicted innocently when it was touted as a health benefit (e.g. my father-in-law was given free cigs during WWII and was told they were good for him), so many more begin smoking for reasons of pride, vanity or even rebellion (teens wanting to look older, be cool or do what they know is wrong). It is a sin and I cannot endorse nor condone such a thing. I can only tolerate it when it is forced upon me and I have no choice. My apologies if the truth is offensive to you.

Who made you the judge of my actions?

What gave you the right to define anything that I do as a filty addiction?

It's none of your damn business!

My apologies if the truth is offensive to you.

Here's the truth.

You're unable to get outside your own head and realize that a free society is messy, that there's a give and take required.

I'm always amazed at what possible good you smoking Gnatzies think your are doing.

You're unable to fight your way out of your narcissistic, childish cocoon to see the damage you're doing to the foundation of our country, private property rights.

You snivel and insult, and think you're making "arguments."

Your "moral" finger-pointing is abhorrent.

It sounds like you may fit into several of the categories that the author Michael McFadden refers to in his book, Dissecting Antismokers Brains, http://www.antibrains.com/. He describes nine categories for antismokers. In your case, I'll settle for his introductory description for just two of them.

THE NEUROTICS: "A person who has markedly and significantly more than the average psychological difficulty in dealing contentedly and productively with one or more commonly encountered aspects of life."
THE CONTROLLERS: "We've all known people who feel a need to exert more than the normal level of control over the people near them and the world around them...."

You certainly seem to be concerned with making the world a better place. That sounds a bit patronizing to me. "We smokers" want to retain our right to choice and are protecting our civil liberties...something you wouldn't understand. We were considerate of people who disliked smoke until it became apparent that those with Fascist attitudes would never be satisfied until everyone was forced to behave in a manner that suited their sense of right.

In regard to your statement that "It is a sin and I cannot endorse nor condone such a thing.", I can't resist adding one more category to my above profile for your attitude. THE MORALISTS: "When the Puritan righteous among us get their hands on the levers of the state, the property and liberty of all of us are likely soon to be at risk" - Robert H. Nelson (Reason 06/96)

Save us all from your kind of truths! Our liberty is at stake!

As an adult WHEN have you EVER been FORCED to tolerate someone else smoking? The answer is NEVER.

I am sorry you have respiratory ailments that are impacted by cigarette smoke, but I'm sorry to say that is not my responsibility, nor the government's, to safeguard you from it - it is your responsibility. Same with you disliking the smell.

You seeking government solutions to your personal problems is not exactly a sign of conservative thought. Sorry if you find the truth offensive.

Response to posts #94 and #95:

Paved Paradise wrote: "It (smoking) is a sin and I cannot endorse nor condone such a thing"

Are we supposed to consider ourselves back in the time of Puritans, Salem and witch burning? Singing and dancing used to be considered sins too. I enjoy smoking and so do a lot of other people. You can call us sinners if that makes you feel better. Only the "good" die young. It must be nice to be such a righteous person. I quit going to church years ago, because I couldn't stand the righteous hypocrites who couldn't wait to gather in cliques after services to gossip and try to decide how they could rule the world.

Yes, there is a definite smell to smoke, but throughout history ("Smoke: A Global History of Smoking") many people have enjoyed it. What may come as a major surprise to you, (had you ever bothered to check the validity of your statement before you made it) is that many smokers have a far more acute "sense of smell" than non-smokers. Also, non-smokers are more often guilty of offending others with halitosis.....possibly, it is because they don't devote the attention to oral hygiene that smokers do.

I have been defending smokers, conversing with and writing to anti-smokers long before today, and have never personally insulted anyone....even the ones that deserved it. I have never felt the frustration in my inability to express myself, where I felt it was required. I am content to leave personal insults to good religious people, such as yourself.

I prefer to smoke, but I respect the choice of anyone who chooses not to smoke. It is their business and I don’t appreciate anyone who intrudes in my personal business. I believe our government's purpose is to prevent anarchy. Government’s purpose is NOT to baby-sit its constituents through enacting unnecessary ordinances and bills that disregard our Bill of Rights. Perhaps you are not acquainted with the Libertarian viewpoint. I also believe in FREEDOM OF CHOICE and DON'T GO IF YOU CAN'T SMOKE.
