*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
LOL!!! There already is one! I couldn't believe it. When we were driving back home from Orlando we kept seeing these big ol' billboards along I95 that said "We buy Ugly Houses" and the website was www.uglyhouses.com. It takes all kinds I guess.
It was such a nice day that there were people out everywhere. We met more day hikers and backpackers on the trail than I can ever remember, plus there were some guys who were camping and canoeing where we stopped for lunch. The horses didn't quite care for the backpackers. I don't know exactly what it is, but with a pack on, people don't quite look like people I guess. Blade did fine, he actually wanted to stop and check them all out to see if they had any snacks on 'em, but Shirley's horse was freaking out every time we met some. We had to put Blade in the front and him in the middle to get by them. Blade pulled his right front shoe off somewhere on the way, I don't know where, but the trail wasn't all that rocky and he did fine. It was past time to have him reshod anyway so he just got a jump start on trimming that hoof down.
Here's a couple of pics I took of the canoers...
Good morning
Beautiful pictures :)
(Cav, see the previous post too for more pictures. I know you remember this spot)
She's really pretty now. Or at least I think so. All that yellow is gone.
You live in such pretty country. I didn't think there really were streams with water that blue:)
I just came in from riding Rusty. Took him on trails today. I don't want to burn him out in the arena or on barrles.
Your baby picture is cute:). They do go thru some gawky stages tho.Don't you have one due in May?
Becky
I've got one due the middle of April and another in early May. We'll just have babies popping out all over the place here before long. :o)
About the blue water, it's not that often that you see it that blue around here either. This particular stream is in the National Forest, so there's no cropland around anywhere close to muddy it up.
We had somebody get a foot in the fence last night, the bottom two wires on the paddock were not broken, but stretched sagging loose on the ground. No one looks cut or swollen, so I don't know whodunnit. I fixed it this morning with a couple turnbuckles.
I sure like these turnbuckles from the hardware store a lot better than any of the fence tensioner gadgets at the farm supply store. You can really pull it tight with them, yet they aren't so big or rough as the ones made for fencing.
I'm glad nobody got hurt. I hate it when somebody gets hung in the fence. They can cut themselves up so badly if they panic. Tennessee used to do it all the time at our old place. The pasture fence was web-wire, what you call field fence, and he'd always want to graze on the other side. He'd walk it down or paw it and get his shoes hung in it all the time. At least he was smart enough to just stand there until somebody came and got him out. Any time I'd see him standing at the fence and he didn't start moving my way when he saw me, I know he was stuck there. I always keep a small pair of bolt cutters around for this very purpose. One time, he was standing there with his whole front leg worked in and out of the fence about twice, all the way up to the shoulder. I don't know how me managed to do it. I just about had to cut the fence in two to get him out that time. Silly horse!
Those little turnbuckles are nice. It'd be handy to have them around for several things.
Field fence makes me nervous too, because they can get a foot through it. I like anything wire to be hot, or that it be that small mesh they can't get a foot in. These wires were hot, so whoever got stuck in it would not just stand there. Luckily they didn't get cut. I bet it was the pony pawing.
"But Google it"
I planted some shrubs and put some google around the roots. Worked pretty good.
I am a shruberer.
I'll bet she got the shock of her life ;o)
On another subject, I've got this picture that an office mate of mine took of a little horse while he was on a mission trip to Honduras last week. The horse himself looks pretty rangy, but the saddle that's on him is the most interesting thing I've ever seen. It's really cushy looking in the seat. I'd like to zoom in on it to show the detail for everybody, but the only photo editing software I have on my PC is Paint and I just can't get it to do right. Can I e-mail it to you and you post it?
There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.
Yes, shrubberies are my trade. I am a shrubber. My name is Keith the Shrubber. I arrange, design, and sell shrubberies.
Ni!
It's on it's way.
"Maybe Keith is actually your husband. HMMMMMMM? U in big trouble lol" Oh boy, I'm really never gonna hear the end of it now. That's kinda cool that Eddie leaves you messages in the steamy parts."
Actually, not interested in Tuffy. I have my eye on Rose of Sharn. The way she ignores me... hot dog!
I do the same thing for my wife that Eddie does for you, Cindy, but I leave notes like "why can't you do this??" and "see, other people do it! It's not that weird!" For some reason, it ain't getting the results I was after.
LOL! Roger The Shrubber.
Do your worst!
