*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Those horses that are the same whether ridden once a day or once a year are few and far between.
That horse sounds like a riot! I love watching horses play. One time Bud picked up a stick and was chasing the other horses with it. Sure wish I'd have gotten that on film but it was over before I could grab a camera.
The cold weather hit you first, then me, now it's heading down to Cindy. Might be there by now.
Is it raining up there?
You should get him one of those horse balls:)
Becky
No the rain isn't suppose to hit till tomorrow. Today might not be to bad if the wind doesn't blow.
Becky
I don't even know who Viggo is but I know that Lightning belongs to Rose of Sharn and " Old farts" belongs to Keith:')
Sounds like you have been having the same weather as us, hot one day, cold the next, lots of wind and some rain. I never know what the day is going to bring. Hopefully the warm weather is here to stay!
Lightning has one of those horse apples, he's crushed it and played with it and stomped on it until its unreconizable! He also had a kids space hopper, lasted one day, is now in two bits, yet he still picks it up and plays frisbee. His favourite though is the rubber feed bucket. He threw it over the fence at the dogs yesterday! : D I would be right in saying he has personality! LOL
ROFL : D
I hope we don't have any storms this year. I lost my trees and plants last year. My youngest son and his wife have landscaped and have my front yard looking nice again. I told them they ought to start an "ugly houses R us"
You must have had a heck of a storm if you lost trees.
My yard looks just awful right now, I need to do lots of work on it. I'm thinking of getting one of those Southern Magnolia trees for a big bare spot I have between me and a neighbor. They seem to be really good for privacy and they are pretty and hardy.
They were small trees. Our lot was treeless when we bought it. I had an almond and a pecan. A tropical storm got um. I'm going to plant another in the back where they have more shelter. We replaced them with oaks.
Cinchy: pretty common. Bay turns around and pins his ears sometimes.... or stomps his foot.... But since he's all bluster, I don't worry about it. Cyn actually made contact once so we take it a little more seriously with her, and slap her if she looks like she's trying to bite.
Good morning all!
Very cold and windy today in the Texas Hill Country.
Melody and I had a great workout last evening. I'm proud of her; she's 22 and is fat, muscled and in very good shape except for an old, chronic injury that has to be managed carefully, but she's as good as I have ever seen her. Being a big lanky thoroughbred she get so thin so easy. Time for her shots; the vet will have to make a ranch call.
We have had coyotes here; last night they were ranging all over some hills next to my property; a big ranch. They sang and warbled and yipped. Made sure my cat Sam and the border collie were inside.
You get so attached to them. Sam was begging and begging to go out, I said not on your life, Sam.
I do so enjoy this thread. Now I am off to PetroniDE's Monday Morning kitty thread. :)
They need acid soil to thrive.
There are lots of them around here so maybe our soil is acid. Where I want to put them is a little rocky, will they work there?
I've seen magnolias thriving in very alkaline soil in San Antonio, but I think they were very carefully nursed along, so it can be done.
I really don't think rocky soil is all that great. But Google it; I have found lots of great plant advice on Google.
Well, our weather here is actually very nice today. I'm off to get a horse saddled.
Becky
Good for you... it's still freezing here, but sunny :~D
Good Morning Sharn!
Bob(TheBiter) always loved to play with things when he was little. Still does. His favorite toy was a woven plastic feed sack full of aluminum cans that I filled then sewed up. He loved to grab it and throw it then run and jump on it with all 4 feet. It was hilarious. Try making Thunder different toys. It doesn't take much. Bob would play with a stick if I'd throw it. I think it stimulates their curiosity and makes their little minds go into overdrive, plus it's fun to watch.
