*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
So your children are doing the diagnostic tests on the computer???
Did you have to pay for this?
Is the whole ACE program on the computer, or are you going to get the work books?
Becky
I swear....this weather.
80's yesterday, and today it's windy and cold....~sigh~ Have I mentioned lately, I hate winter:)
Becky
Its a free test, that is on http://www.aceministries.com/index.asp
We plan to use books, and might buy a couple of cdroms on certain subjects. Thankyou so much for your help, we were looking at lots of different sites, but this one stood out far above the rest.
Yes, you get a look see. ;)
Does ol' Viggo do it for you, too? I don't know what it is about him, he's really not all that great looking, there are lots of actors that are more handsome. I guess it's just that he's sooooo masculine (and he can ride a horse).

check this out, on home schooling.
I wish I had heard the line "Why do you Public School?" back when I was homeschooling. Great comeback.
Becky
No.
Becky
I feel that homeschooling is a good thing. I haden't considered the material that some children have to read until your problems. It made me sit up and take notice.
Children are encouraged too much to act like little adults instead of being children. No recess, sex education and "talks" about possible abuse at a really early age. Gods Word is spoken less and less.
Where have our values gone?
I say, homeschool, teach your children Christian values, spend more quality time with them, as well as math/english/science etc teach them to cook/sew/ride a horse.
Let our children be children.
The learning is ongoing too. Ex: When Josh was studying weather in science we measured rain, tracked temps, laid outside and looked at clouds etc after the "school work" done.
I have a horse question. Sarah Lee was saddle shy when I got her. She would blow out big time. I cinch her slowly and in steps and she does good now but she still does something strange. She turns her head and bites air. Even when I just put a blanket on her. I thought she was trying to bite me and I was going to climb all over her but I have saddled her untied and she does the same. She doesn't even try to bite me just a fast air bite. Why do you think she does this? It's almost like pain but nothing hurting her. I can put pressure all over her back and she doesn't flinch. She doesn't do it as much with cinching just the blanket and saddle. She doesn't do it when I get on her either.
She's just cinchy, no big deal. I wouldn't worry about it for 2 seconds. George the Pony does that too, but every now and then he'll reach around and try to bite you.
You should get video of it, and possibly send it to America's Funniest Home Videos. It sounds hilarious.
Oh ok. Yall have a cold front coming down this way? I got too much sun today. It was 88 in the barn. I'm wiped out tonight.
"Actually I prefer my imagination (grin)."
So you imagine Viggo lighting his farts? Sorry, am I mixing thread subjects here???
Good morning!
It's 7:25 am and beautiful, warm and sunny, without the wind that we have been having! It's already 65 and will be in the mid 70s today : )
I've been browsing vacation homes in the areas we are thinking of moving too. Trying to decide where to go for our summer break! If anyone knows any "secluded and private" places please let me know!
Lightning is galloping up and down his field with his rubber bucket, picking it up, rearing, twisting, turning and then throwing it and racing down the field only to come back at it at an incredible speed to throw it around some more! He looks like he is having heaps of fun! Dust is churning and the bassets are sitting in a line at the fence watching this big horse play : )
The change from Saturday to Sunday was drastic. It was 87 Saturday, in the 50's yesterday and going to be chilly all week. Has the cold air made it down to you, yet? Supposed to be rainy Tuesday and Wednesday. So much for spring break.
I think you are mixing subjects.
Viggo doesn't fart.
That sounds just like our weather:(
Becky
Good morning
Becky
I love it when my horses play with toys! You just don't see that very often.
It's cold today and the rest of the week is going to be icky. I rode Tuffy on Saturday for the first time in weeks. He was fine but a little spooky. One of the neighbors big dogs came running through the trees and that's something he wouldn't look at twice, if he's ridden regularly. He stopped, looked around for a minute and acted like he was fixing to make a run for it. I was able to calm him down and he walked on but kept looking behind us.
Rusty does that. If he hasn't been rode in awhile he will spook at stuff he has seen/been past 100's of times.
