*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Good mornin'.

Hubby, daughter and friends had a wild time trying to load the new horses on the trailer, last night. (I stayed home. Good thing)

Her 'real' name is Mosby A Taz. Her baby isn't named. Hmmm.

It's always fun loading a horse that doesn't want to load:)

Why don't people train them to do that when they are babies??? I've never understood that.

Back when we still lived at our place, I took the 'lazy' way to teach them to load.

We just left the door open to the trailer, and they would put THEMSELVES in and out.

Got to the point where they would 'argue' over WHO got to be inside it. LOL!!!

Oh! That is so funny!
Good morning everyone, we have a beautiful day outside. Got another exciting trip to the landfill (and its not even my birthday this time!) and then I have GOT to brush Misty. She is shedding like there is no tommorow!
I'm going with Deaconjim to take Tommy to school now and then I get to watch him unload the trash..........Isn't life exciting! : D
See U all later! : )

I'm a bit envious of your ~sip~, in one sense, but then I have felt better this last week then I have in a long time.

Over the last 3 weeks, I have been working on getting caffine out of my diet. I am down to 1 very weak cup in the mornings. I've tried dong without even that, but by 10-11 I start getting a terrible headache.

Have you started Watchers yet?

Well, it's going to be a beautiful day here too. I should be able to get 2 horses rode:) Just deciding on which two, and if I want to do arena or trails.

Surprisingly enough, I have been enjoying arena riding alot. Now that I have a goal that will be fulfilled in an arena, I'm working towards something, it is not nearly as boring.

I haven't started it yet... Yesterday I really had a lot of outdoor work I wanted to get done, and I got stopped in my tracks by a lawnmower that wouldn't start. I wore myself out on it and it ruined my mood!

I don't know whether to try again today or not. I might just shoot if full of holes with the shotgun.

I'm sorry, that is a frustrating thing to run up against.

Are you already mowing?

I am going to spread seed in our big dead spot, and I want to mow the area around it really short first, because there's a lot of growth already from our various warm spells this winter. Once I put seed down, I'll be putting up a temporary fence to keep the dogs out and I won't be able to mow it so easily then.

Mornings without coffee?!!! That's like living without air!
Nothing on earth could make me forsake my coffee, and I know that deaconjim and the kids wouldnt want me to!
I am waiting on deaconjim to load the truck, it's such a shame that I can't help him : )
It's his Friday today, he gets tommorow and Saturday off which is great for the children, the weather is supposed to be good this weekend, so we hope to get a lot of things done, including working with the foals again.
The mares and foals seem to be doing fine with our switch to Nutrena SafeChoice. We will probably put Lightning and Smokey on it too at some point, just keep their dosage on the lower side as it has so much protein. They will still get a bunch of hay until our grass comes up a bit more.
Well see u later

Ok, that makes sense.

I've wanted to seed and fertilize my pasture for about 3 years now:). It's just one of those things that's hard to get done in the spring. We have so many expenses come up in the spring, I hate adding to them. But it is getting critical out there now, that I do something, or I'm going to have nothing but dirt and weeds.

We want to do the pasture too... There is grass, it just has no vigor. When I first moved here, it had too much vigor and I worried constantly about founder, limiting their time out there. But they've been on it four years now, overgrazed it, and last year, it just never really grew.

I wish I knew what kind of fertilizer and how much to do. Our hay guy said I should call the chicken farm and have them dump an inch of chicken poo on it. That's what he does. Oh - that'd be popular with the neighbors :~D

I've even thought of just using 'weed and feed' for lawns on it. It's expensive for that big an area, but at least I understand how to use it.

I never thought I would give up coffee either, I've been drinking it since the 2nd grade:)

But wait till you hit 50:). It's amazing how a lifetime of eating/drinking not properly catches up with about that time. Then you will do anything to make yourself feel better. This past winter I have felt absolutely horrible. There were days I felt so bad I truly thought I had what my mother died of.

2 wks ago, I started taking some vitamins designed for women, and I read a book called The Schwarzbein Principle. You should read it. It is a real eye opener on proper nutrition and the consequences of unhealthy eating habits. Almost all the problems I've been having this winter have all but disappeared, and I don't feel like an old lady any more:)

That's what I've thought of using, weed and feed, but like you it is so expensive for that big of an area.

The ranch that my son ropes at, and works his horses, one year they had a "human" waste disposal company come and spread "fertizler" over their pastures...Oh my gosh, you could smell that the whole summer whenever you drove past. My son told me they told him, there is a waiting list to get the stuff. But their pasture is so thick with green grass now....

I've wondered but never asked, if you have to get special permission to do something like that. I imagine the company that does it could tell you. I've just never really wanted too:)
