*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Rocky thinks Harley is more of a threat maybe?
Rocky reminds me of our stud. "Me, go out in that mud? No way"
Well, maybe today.
It's sunny here, but the wind is blowing, so it's a bit chilly.
Becky
Since he's busy I'll answer.... It's a quote clip from "The Princess Bride". :~D
That's exactly the way he is. He won't come out in the rain or snow either hardly.
Becky
You did a good job of converting her then, with a nice collection like that.
Where there any horses involved, that you had to share?
One of the most-quotable movies of all time.
"Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says otherwise is selling something."
"Give us the gate key."
"I have no gate key."
"Fezzik, tear his arms off."
"Oh, you mean ~this~ gate key!"
Nice collector's item to pass down. It's too bad, so many children are taught guns are evil, and do not get the opportunity to enjoy hunting or the shooting sports.
It's odd. The first fourteen years of his life, Sonny lived outside, no stall, no barn, no shelter period. He was at our house about two minutes and decided he really liked having a stall, and then when the weather got bad, made it clear that going out in it for water was a real imposition. I wish I'd taken a picture of the foot wide path he had made along the paddock rails to his water trough so he wouldn't have to step in the mud.
She had her own horse when I met her and I think she's still got him, but I haven't talked to her in a year, so I don't know.
I agree. My daughters as well as my sons took hunter's safety education when they were 11 years old. It should be a requirement of education. (sure like that would ever happen)
When it snows or rains is the only time Rocky's stall has to be mucked out:),

Just a quick note to let y'all know that I'm leaving out going on a 7 day cruise. Won't be back 'til march 8th. Don't know if I'll get to check back in again or not. I'm SO looking forward to it. We haven't been on a real vacation in 4 or 5 years. So, I'll think about y'all when I'm laying on the beach in Belize sipping margaritas! ;o)
Talk to ya later...
Oh, have a great time:), and WE will be thinking of you too.
Becky
Do you know much about camera's?
I have a Sony Mavica. I went out to take some pictures awhile ago for something to do. I took those earlier ones this morning. Then I took one when I first went out, opened some gates to turn horses out,and was going to take some as they ran out. Well the view window had gone dark so I thought it had just turned itself off. But when I pushed the on button it wouldn't come on. The battery is fully charged, it just won't turn on. Any idea what is wrong.
Becky
I would take the battery out, put it back in, flip the on off switch a couple times... I have had ours get kindof - stuck.
Ok, I did that. The little light that comes on when I'm charging the battery flashed, but it still won't come on. Can those batteries go bad? Do they have to be replaced after so long?
Becky
Batteries can and do fail. Sitck it back on the charger and see if it will work for even a few minutes... Their life just keeps getting less and less.
New batteries shouldn't be too much. I have an extra battery, one sits in the camera, and one in the charger, and I swap them out when one goes dead, or take both when we are going out to take a bunch of pictures all day.
I've plugged it in to the charger, and the light doesn't even come on to say that it is charging. The only thing we can get it to do is when we take the battery out and put it back in the charge light flashes once and then nothing.
Mack is looking at it now, and checking on the internet. He thinks the battery my have gone bad. But when I did take that one picture it was showing fully charged.
I really enjoy taking pictures with that camera, even tho I forget alot:). We better get it to work again.
Becky
I hope it works again too! Although the new ones that take even higher res pictures have really come down in price and are smaller and a lot easier to carry. We used to have one of those Mavicas... and they're good, but big.
I dropped my little Nikon off the horse a while back... jammed it and for a minute the lens wouldn't close or move. Really scared me because I would absolutely go nuts without it. I got it unjammed and it is working fine, but I told ecurbh, "If this camera dies, we have to go get another one just like it the same day!" I think he understands ;~D
