*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Previous threads:

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

Heh - you're reading it already? We're gonna order it from Amazon, you're fast!

I picked it up at Barnes and Noble last night while dd was at choir.... I can tell I may be up late tonight reading :).... RIght now I can't wait for the cornbread to be out of the oven so we can eat and I can read!!!

Has anyone here read _Peace Like a River_ by Leif Enger? It's been out awhile - but was a real favorite when I read it... It was his first novel - not a horror or suspense book....Its hard to explain - told from point of view of 11 year old boy.

:You may want to read comments on Amazon and see if it sounds interesting to you.... For me it was one of those -" Can't do a thing until I finish reading this book " kind of books ! Cindy

Our cable modem gave out, and we had to have a service tech come out with a new one. I didn't know what to do with myself today! Had to be in the house waiting for the tech call, and babysitting him once he got here... blew the whole day!

I have read that, A friend from the HH recommended it, and bought it for me. It was a very good read!

Yes it does.... I am worrying about that single gal in her aunt's creepy house until I can get back to her and find out why he's calling..... do you read fast.... You may get ahead of me - not that I read that slowly - but have lots of interruptions! Even took it into orthodontist's office with ds today - of course he got right in and out before I could finish a whole chapter!! If I were stuck with the office magazines - it would have been an hour :)

That picture is really sad. She looks like she is crying.

I'm afraid I would have taken one look at her eyes and made the man drop the price and sell her to me to avoid being reported for abuse or arrested for cruelty or something. I'd have been mightly tempted to shoot him but I sure wouldn't have let her go. 'Course everyone in four counties knows what a fool I am.

Sorry, I was not clear. I bought a nice sorrel mare, she came up lame. We went back to the auction the next week to find the guy and complain. He was not there, but we spread the story enough, that a few days later, he shows up in the wee hours of the morning with this other horse (one in the picture) and took the sorrel back.

After seeing what he brought us, in exchange, we found out where he lived and paid him a visit. He picked her up, and gave us our money back. I was just a kid, so maybe he felt bad about ripping me off..lol He did offer another horse, but we had enough of that guy. I don't know what happened to that poor horse after that. This was over 30 years ago, I wanted Becky to see if she thought it's jaw was broke.

He was a dealer, and probably could have cared less. I did ride her in a hackamore, and she was well broke. I was showing in 4-H at the time, and a horse looking like that would have embarrassed me. Besides, it got loose one day. My poor Mom got tangled in the neighbors electic fence, trying to catch her. That was the end of that horse.

I have no clue if that is a broken jaw. Like I said the horse I had, there was nothing noticeable till it healed and his teeth didn't match up.

You're right, he wouldn't have cared. I probably would have shot him - just kidding really. I hate people like that and always hope that God makes them realize the error of their ways, sooner rather than later.

I agree but it's not like we were playing dodgeball or anything really planned. She wasn't tied.(just the one watching) We were walking. There was alot of stuff on the ground and I was walking her around. She saw the cup but I kicked it on the spur of the moment to look like it was blowing. I didn't know it was going to be so loud so after it happened I let her sniff it and then kicked it as we walked and she was fine. I felt at the time that I screwed up a little but then I was thinking sometimes stuff happens and ... .

OK - I guess I misunderstood what happened then. I thought it was more set up than that. And I wanted to advise against being deliberately spooky... you want her to trust you as the safe person in a sometimes scary world, not for her to be on the lookout that ~you~ might do something scary any minute.
