What twits! Who gets the commission is between them and doesn't involve you either on the buying end OR the selling end.
When you're selling your home, you will sign a contract with the Realty agency that givees them exclusive rights to show your home. Any other realtor who wants to show it, has to inform your realtor who may contact you unless you've given instructions about when it's OK to show (while you're at work, etc). Until you sign that contract, you have NO obligation to stay with any one realtor or realty company. Feel free to talk to as many as you like, and if they don't suit you, don't sign a contract! We talked to four different realtors until we decided on one when we sold our house in NJ. If you 're having trouble getting someone from an agency to return your call when you want to SELL, I'd call another agency. Selling is money in their pocket, and if they're not interested, find someone who is!
All good information - thanks!
I think I'll likely go with the agency I've contacted, if only because of their reputation and because they have far more of an internet presence than any of the others in the area, but I'll be careful about what I sign - if I don't feel right about things on Tuesday, I'll tell 'em I'm still considering my options. ;-)
I just hope they think I can get a decent price. From looking at other listings, I'm not altogether hopeful. But maybe I'll be surprised.
