The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Fried Smelt recipe

There's a restaurant know for it's Friday Fish Fry up near my home town, we always make a point to go there whenever we're visiting. They usually have 3 kinds of fish: cod, lake trout, and smelt.

Cleaning smelt strikes me as a really slow process. :-)

Little buggers. Lots of 'em. :-)

But then again, it's more like cuttin' plugs. Pretty fast.

The fabled Thread Three was only 6 weeks old, and still had 6 months to go before implosion...

The Columbia disaster was the first disaster that I remember learning about on the web. I was up early browsing a news site when I spotted a little story about Mission Control losing contact with the shuttle during its descent. I then turned on the TV to the cable news channels to see if they were saying anything, and I saw the first video broadcast on CNN. I knew right away it had broken up.

Every disaster before that I learned about first on TV or the radio. 9/11 was the first time I tried to follow news reports on the web; I was lurking on FR even though I didn't have a user account yet. I remember I eventually gave up, because FR kept going down under the user load. I just started flipping the TV between ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN/Fox News...

Same here. In fact, I signed up here ~on~ 9/11. It was the events of that day that lured me out of lurkdom.

I lurked for a couple of years, and it was the mother-of-all-Y2K threads that finally forced me to log in and post my first post and my first flame-out post... at the same time. :-)

I'd finally had enough... and had to tell them all that *nothing* would actually happen on Y2K. [sigh] It all looks so small now, in the perspective of things.

Just had to go find this out of curiosity... found my first post. Althought I signed up on 9/11 I still didn't post for a few more days.

Well... dangit... tonight I swung by the local Subaru dealer to pick up some literature on the Forester for Dad to look at...

And *dangit* if they didn't have the coolest Land Rover Defender 90 in the showroom. It's a 1995 with 35K miles (they say) but it is monstrously clean and showroom new. [sigh] Dammit.

It looks sorta like this:

Except the one here is a soft top, but still has the roll cage, and is hunter green like the pic.

Hmmm... didn't need this decision just now... but *dangit* I've always wanted one of these...

Isn't that cute..... I remember when you were lookin' at those all the time. Some of them were pretty rough! Not spiffy like that one!
