The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hair, I'd sue for defamation of character. Or maybe retaliate.

[»?4[»?¬id the website is one of those things that seemed like a good idea, but will probably never happen. Even though the sweet guys at onering.com created it as a gift. JRD travels too much and has a hard time focusing when we finally land somewhere for a spell. Sorry.

Mornin'

We're going to the Richmond Home and Garden Show today.

Bought a coffee maker at the auction last night. It's a Cuisineart. Grinds the beans for you. Ironically wife set it up last night, but we didn't have enough coffee...

We're going out to breakfast. Leaving Jr. here in charge of the fort.

Hair, appears that Homer has learned to share his couch with ecurbh.

g'nad, get your planting stock from the MDC nursery yet?

OT, any news on Miss Kitty's sunroom?

Thank you Deb, for letting me know! :D I would have linked him up on mine if there had been any activity, but I completely understand as well : its far more important that he's 'out' there doing what he does best and I wish him the greatest of luck!

And tell him I said thank you for speaking out!

Good morning....

Homer convinces us that he can fit in a very small space, if it's not too much trouble.

'Morning! [sip]

They start on Miss Kitty's sunroom Monday. I finished painting around the sgd and everything....need to make sure I have film for pictures.

My potted rhubarb is coming up. I'm trying to decide where to plant it. The parsley is going to seed and my little potted rose is putting out buds.

I need to get a charcoal grill.

Well, we think (hope, pray) that we found our septic problem.

Yesterday, I took that snake and tried to clear out the main drain from the septic to the house AGAIN. No problems encountered. About that time, Steve came home and decided he was going to run the snake out to the box, you know, out toward the leach field. We got a few feet and encountered resistance.

So we started digging.

Got down to the pipe that goes from the septic to the "box" that the leach field pipes come off of and found that they had partially repaired it in the past. About 5' from the septic was relatively new looking PVC. Then, apparently, they just stuck it into the old ceramic pipe going out to the box and sealed it by dumping a bunch of concrete on top of it. Worked ok, actually, but the ceramic pipe that proceeded from the dumped concrete out to the box had completely fallen apart. It was just in pieces.

So basically, our leach field consisted of a pipe draining into the soil five feet out from our septic.

Well, at this point, that's a pretty easy fix...we spoke with a guy at Lowes and he told us what to do and I looked it up online and found all we have to do is run a new PVC pipe out from the end of the PVC pipe that's already there out to the box.

So we're going to do that first. Then we're going to look at our leech field, little by little. Honestly, any little fix is gonna be an improvement and praise the Lord our soil is extremely sandy or we might have had real problems before this. (I can literally take a running water hose and plunge it straight into the earth without encountering resistance!)

I hope that is it. I'd be careful who you tell you are doing this repair. I am sure even where you are, there are regs and county codes that require permitting and licensed work and inspection on anything having to do with the drain field.

Heh. When I left for work yesterday, Miss Cat was looking real comfortable stretched out on the floor in front of the sgd. I wish I could apply for her job. Wonder if she has any applications to fill out.
