She knows better. It's only because of her that he leaves without taking more!

I wouldn't be amazed at all, because when I was little, my mother would make me take notes and explain the sermon to her afterwards (she'd be out nursing or walking a baby half the time)

Kids can do whatever your expect of them.

My poor Scruffy will be asking that when he finally gets there.

I hope that time is still a long way off. He's doing a lot better since having the bumps taken off. And all of them were benign, thank God for that!

Oh I don't mind raising my voice if it's a matter of safety, if only to get the kid's attention. In the matter of the little girl, just let her know that if she will not do what you say, when you say it, that she won't be allowed the PRIVILEGE of going with you when you go somewhere, because you are concerned for her safety. Let her know that before you ever open the door to the car. If she ignores you again, let her Mom know that too, if you're comfortable doing that, and don't take her with you once, before giving her another chance. It would give her time to think about her behavior.

Yes! Done with the project proposal! If only I can finish this test early, I can get started on coding or studying, and I'll let myself watch a movie tonight as a reward.

Just got the go-ahead to leave early, so I'll see you all later!

Have a bag full of books I need to drop off at the used-book store and hopefully they have the sequel to the book I'm reading now in stock. *fingers crossed*

Bye!

When the kids were really little, we took turns going to Mass so we didn't have to bring them along. When they got to be about 5, we took them to Mass and made it clear that it's not a time to chatter, or eat snacks. We'd let them bring a book along, if they were still under 7, but after they'd made First Communion, they were supposed to pay attention to Mass. I'd bring a Mass Book along to help them learn what was going on.

I always disliked the 'Children's Masses' cause they were usually so dumbed down they were silly; the kids didn't like them, either, so that made the decision easy. I went to the 'Cry Room' once, when the Church was really crowded, and I needed to sit down with Joseph. The parents were chatting away while the kids were running around! They weren't even attempting to pay attention to Mass, not that you could hear the speakers over the din of the kids, anyway. After that, I just made sure we always had a place to sit INSIDE the Sanctuary.

I don't mind folks bring kids in to Mass, but I don't like it when they carry on a running conversation with the kid the entire time, making it hard for the folks around them to hear the Mass, or stay firmly ensconced in the pew with the kid crying loudly. Obviously, the child is upset about something, take it outside and find out what the problem is!

Bye, Ruthy! Good luck with the book!

Almost time for me to head home, too...

They would probably never ~hit~ them, but they may put a hand on them and a scare into them that would mean the lesson got learned. Life is sometimes physical, sometimes at least intimidating.

When SSQ would do an activity with the Cub Scout troop, if he needed to get the attention of one of the boys to 'encourage' a change in behavior, he'd put a hand on the kid's shoulder and push down, ever so slightly. It made it clear who the 'Big Dog' was in the relationship. Worked like a charm! ;o)

I don't get Celeste sometimes...you know her son is Matthew's best friend? He's so brilliant that I wonder if he's not a savant, you know? I would be willing to bet he has the entire Bible memorized chapter and verse. He knows American History so much that he's like this constant walking talking encyclopedia.

She puts him in Children's church.

Of all the people in worship, this little boy should be hearing the pastor! He really would soak it up like a sponge!

On the other hand, come to think of it...now I remember she wanted him interacting with other kids. Besides Matthew, he just doesn't have any other friends...

But you know, that's not gonna change. He is who he is and she oughta let him come into worship and enjoy himself!

FWIW, my two cents...

I can't wait till you meet him. Such a great kid. Both of them are so different but such good little boys.

They (and their daddy) are the best things that I ever had in my life.
