The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Not at all!

There is no such thing as bad publicity. This whole debacle has made her more of a celebrity than anything else she could have done on her own.

Better than bedding a bag. ;~D

Or wearing a bed...

Okay...I give...I COMPLETELY missed class the day 'funkle' was explained. Please to illuminate?

Funkle: Five different posts in a row by the same poster with no response in between.

Suzi is the funklemaster. The rest of us are just pretenders to the throne.

"Spam" is not "Funkle." Spam is multiple postings of the same post.

At least that's what I've been told. I wouldn't really know.

I think that your definitions of "funkle" and "spam" are spot-on.

Well...I have OK news, bad news, and possibly devastating news.

OK news is that it's likely just a virus that's really hanging on, and I have a new ointment to try and some antibiotics.

Bad news is that this visit alone took all the money I got for the sale of that bike. Instantly.

Possibly devastating news is...that Halvah has some other issues not relating to just this eye problem. She has the beginning of cataracts, AND because of other symptoms (the fact that she's had frequent colds and eye viruses over the years, that she's always thirsty, and the cataracts), the vet thinks she may be diabetic.

I would have had them do a blood test, but even with lots of people helping, we couldn't do it while she was conscious. So she has a hugh shaved patch on her neck and nothing to show for it. I can't even imagine doing insulin even if I could afford that, mentally and financially speaking.

We're going to do a urine sample test, I guess, and take it from there. In a lot of ways I wonder if I should bother. Maybe I'd rather not know. But if she does have diabetes...it'll get worse as she gets older. On the other hand, maybe this is a coincidence, and I'd rather know for sure. But I can't afford this.

I'm supposed to go in to work at noon, but I'm going to wait until I quit bawling. I know, I know...they're *just* cats, but...

I wouldn't worry a moment longer about the cataracts. My cat is completely blind in one eye... both Logan and Zulu had cataracts to some degree.... and they are/were able to get along just fine - it's just part of growing old. I can't imagine they are actually recommending you do anything about that are they? old animals do just fine, particularly inside only cats. Heck... my old cat is still outside hunting blind. Not well, but he does it ;~D

As for diabetes... I dunno... I would put it on a list to check later on then you get there. It isn't something that must be handled now.

As for the money... yeah... I can sympathize... Spent a surprising amount of money at veterinary myself, and it's never at a good time.

Sorry about the downer of it, and I don't mean to minimize it, but if I were you, I'd minimize it.

Ruthy, if you cannot stay on with State Farm, there are independent agents you could try, that are able to sell more than one underwriter.

I have been with an independent for awhile. OTOH, I believe my ability to buy homeowners insurance is also hanging by a thread. Most of the companies don't really want to sell in Florida.

I knew it was Martha - guess she will be more famous than ever now, what with having been an inspiration and fashion /spiritual guide to the other inmates who were "just normal people" and all that...I don't exactly like this trend of celebrities that are criminals. OTOH, I don't really think Martha should have gone to jail.

She's definately not someone I think society needs to be protected from with prison walls.

It's just one more of the many sideshows in this great carnival of life!

When I funkle, I always visualize standing in a room talking to everyone after they've already left the room. It feels a bit foolish, but unlike in RL, the words are sorta "suspended" in mid-air until the person comes back into the room.

Heh!

And yes...I would have to agree that Suzi gets the award for being the best at funkling.

She isn't old - just now five - which is why, I guess, they think there may be something systemic.

So far, that's the biggest thing wrong. But I have no idea what will come later. I only asked a few minimal questions because I was trying not to break down. Held back until just as I was walking out the door.

(((Sam)))

It isn't that we ~can't~ get another policy. It's that I can't afford much more than what we're paying now. :-(

Getting a policy in Florida is difficult, but in South Florida it's become almost impossible. Maybe up near Jacksonville things are less expensive???
