Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Tomorrow we may come this way...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Thanks! I need it... I've been studying but it feels like it goes in and goes back out without sticking at all.

I decided last night to bite the bullet and go on down to half and half coffee today. So I made the pot.
Now usually, Steve puts one cup of coffee on my bedside table and leaves me one more cup in the coffee maker. This time, he didn't leave me in the coffee maker!!!!!! I went from two cups of 1/3rd decaf to one cup of half decaf!
No way. Ain't gonna happen, sis.
Made myself a cup of regular tea.
I've experienced vague headaches all this week...nothing major, but it's there nonetheless. Nothing like when I'd go cold turkey, though...oh my stars. That was agony. I've only had one major headache since decreasing my caffeine and I suspect it comes from excluding the afternoon cup (that I enjoyed so much with you!)
I know this is silly to discuss, but I am majorly addicted to caffeine. And since I seem to just KEEP battling this anemia, I gotta do something! (Caffeine inhibits the uptake of iron from the diet.)

I've managed it before - giving up caffeine, that is. But I did it cold turkey and was barely functioning for about a week. After that it was OK, EXCEPT that I was then ultra sensitive to the stuff and couldn't, for example, pick up a regular soda without it making me ill.
So...on the other hand, maybe it'd be easier to just start eatin' lots of spinach...

LOL!!
I search out and eat high iron foods, but apparently the caffeine is what's keeping it from making any difference. It's discouraging.
I've quite cold turkey twice, with both pregnancies. I just felt AWFUL!
The funny thing is, as with any addiction, your brain tells you lies trying to get that fix. It's similar (but not any where near as harsh) as when I quit smoking. My brain would think up all kinds of reasons why I needed that cigarette! Well, I was sitting on the couch and it flashed into my mind that without my coffee, what reason did I have to live? ROFLOL!!!!! I literally laughed outloud and told Steve.
It's preposterous! But that's what an addiction will do to you...I've been through it before. This time it's funny. When I quit smoking, it took all I had to not listen.

I'd kind of like to quit again. I felt much better once I got past the worst of it - not all foggyheaded in the mornings or headaches on the weekends when I didn't get coffee until late. But it means checking EVERYTHING for caffeine, since it really bothers me if I'm not used to it.
Also there aren't as many options with decaf coffee, though that may be different in a bigger area with more selection! So...maybe when I get to Colorado I'll try to kick the habit again. Maybe.

I tell ya, if it didn't seem to be interrupting my absorption of iron, I WOULD NOT give it up. I really love the stuff. I go to bed at night looking forward to that first cup in bed in the morning. That's probably somewhat psychological, because it's my Mother's Day present from Steve, remember? It's what he gave me for Mother's Day last year...that cup of coffee on the bedside table. ~snif~ Well, maybe someday I'll quit having this trouble with my iron and can go back to it!

I'd NEVER give up coffee. That ain't gonna happen! Switch to decaf - maybe. But I never make it long without coffee of some sort.
But I do like the feeling of not needing caffeine to get me going.

Beans are high in iron, too! Lentils, especially, I think.
Hm...what else?

Oysters are the best! And I love 'em. Wouldn't ya know. They cost a fortune and are high in saturated fat.
~sigh~
I take a supplement too, with a glass of OJ in the afternoon.

That's enough of that...I'm gonna try to find a good grinder to make almond butter. The "Handy Chopper" I have now (the one that the plug poked me in the eye, you know) doesn't chop up fine enough. Too chunky. I want a smooth paste.
See ya later!

You didn't like Red Dwarf???
*Alkhin SAD!*
Actually, it doesnt surprise me. The first season REALLY isnt all that swift. Its actually boring. *IF* you so desire to give it another chance, skip ahead to the 3rd and 4th seasons. In fact, I can narrow it down to these episodes : "DNA", "Camille", "Back to Reality", AND especially "Quarantine" (which I think is the epitome of their best).

Well, it seems my blender might work! I'm gonna give it a shot after lunch.
Today is taco-making day. Heh heh...the first ever. I'm gonna make a bunch of bean and cheese tacos, fry 'em up and put 'em in baggies, three per baggie and freeze them for Steve to take to work. I'm using those low-carb tortillas we like so much.
I got the idea from a frozen burrito he brought home...thought to myself "I can do this...only better!"

That's what I'm havin' for lunch - only I didn't make burritos. Just have whole wheat tortillas (the ones I made the other day), and then all the bean and cheese stuff in a tupperware container so I can heat it up.
Homemade, all of it! Well...the beans and tortillas, anyway.

You know...Steve likes that convenient frozen burrito stuff...it's certainly not good for him. I can make the same stuff with quality ingredients and he can just grab it and go.
Made me feel bad when he brought that frozen one home...that's what he used to eat before he went on Atkins and he gained all that weight...I've been dropping the ball on having quality food around for him. He just doesn't have time to get his own meals ready...sometimes it's 10pm when he comes in, he's hardly had anything decent to eat all day.

I've lately gotten rather picky (or paranoid, maybe) about what goes into my food. And I wonder what all the preservatives and other junk really do to us. It's cheaper to make stuff from scratch, but more than that, I know what goes into it!
