The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

All of us are a pain in the rear.... no exceptions.

That's why family is so valuable.

Yep...

Of course...we also tend to say things to our family that we wouldn't DREAM of saying to anyone else...insults and bickering and such. Because we know we can.

At least, I know I do at times. Not proud of it, but it happens.

I can easily imagine Corin talking a lot about ~his~ bowels in his final days, probably over dinner ;~D.

Bowel obsession is just something that happens to old folks.... we'll know why soon enough, unless we are spared old age by a passing truck. :~D

Heh...it was a major accomplishment to teach her to use her cell phone.

No, Nana will never be on the Internet. She would be a lot better off if her other kids cared to come see her. But we're not holding our breath for that.

In reality, while we know she's lonely, she's in much better spirits than last time (granted, she's not in as much pain). She just doesn't realize that once she tells us something (as in the cheese reference), that she doesn't need to tell us another 20 times. But that's part of being old.

I have been informed, however, that "applesauce helps."

I filed that under "Too Much Information."

Ha! Found the secret roof staircase. Wow... a lovely view, and a lovelier day. Got a few pics but I'm not sure how they'll turn out.

Why wait for dinner? Is there something you need to know?

Hope they turn out OK!

Almost time to go here...not snowing yet, though. Hope we get a snow day tomorrow...but it's not lookin' likely.

Woot, we got new chairs! And good ones, with back support.

I think hoping for snowdays when you're on a four-week countdown is wrong anyway...

Aw, you're no fun! ;-)

And besides, it's a FIVE week count down. Or...in any case, five weeks from today we leave Vermont.

You decided to leave Monday morning, not Sunday afternoon, then?

Margaret works that Sunday - so that was never in the plan.

We plan to leave as early as possible on Monday.

I can barely use my cell phone. Luckily the only voice messages we get are from TracFone. But Nana might like this site Totally Hip. Don't know if they have a support group for caregivers :-)

It's going to go by vey fast and vey slow at the same time.

Ugh...speaking of one of the slow things, I'm not lookin' forward to another night on the air mattress. I gotta move it into the office, I guess. It isn't nearly as warm as a real bed (maybe cause it's at ground level) and the bedroom isn't heated. Even with the door open, it was collllllld last night.

I'm heading out in a couple of minutes here, but wanted to ask you what day you plan on flying in.

I don't mind flying solo, but I'd like someone to help me out once I get there (ShootMoot). :-D

Be back later....
