The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Books. I have my own set of voices for the characters. Marvin sounds exactly like the way my mother used to read "Eeyore" in Winnie-the-Pooh.

I've just never had one before! I have no clue where to even go to get a prepaid one. They don't have them everywhere here as they apparently do elsewhere.

But I guess I can look into it.

'K...

Then the different voices in the new movie won't trouble you...though the changes to the plot might.

I first heard it as the radio program, and "discovered" the books later. I also have a tape of the poor-quality BBC TV adaptation that used the actors from the radio.

I hope you do... I don't like to run to town without one, let alone a cross country trip.

Nope, don't care about the voices. Since both the show and the books were all Adams' work, I don't consider one more cannonical than the other.

I've mellowed in the last few years... I used to watch movies that were adapted from books and mutter "that's not right, that didn't happen". Now I wait until I get out of the theater - kidding, but I try to regard them as two different sides of the same story. There are cases where I like the adaption of a story better than the original!

We don't have enough towers or good enough reception to make them practical here, so I've never bothered researching them.

I just worry I'll pay for something that will be useless in CO. I mean...even if I get a prepay plan, what about the phone itself?

Rhetorical question...I don't expect you to know the answer. ;-)

And as I think I've mentioned here before...the radio program actually predates the books.

Sometimes I even say, "well, that was a pretty good story all by itself." From the looks of the trailer, I'll have to say the same of the HHGTTG.

I expected differences bettween JRRT and PJ over the last few years, and came away not disappointed. Much. Most of the time while watching those, I was thinking "Oh, so that's what (Hobbitton, Moria, Minas Tirith, Mount Doom) looked like!"

My prepay phone works great here. I think most of them do. Look for them at Wal-mart next time you go, in the electronics department.

I've never seen cellphones at Wal-Mart...not ours. At least...I think I've seen a rep there from another company (Cellular One, maybe?) once in awhile, but I dunno if they do prepay plans. However, that's in NH, if that makes a difference.

*sigh*

I may have to drive to find one. Though maybe ExGeeEye's pointer would work. I guess...it doesn't really matter in which state you get one?

Cell phones are so totally foreign to me, I can't even begin to tell ya...

They're not through a dealer, just in plastic packaging on the shelves. Most places I've seen have three or four brands; you buy the phone, and then load up with the minutes you need (I do mine online).

Looks like the TracFone prepaid phones are even available on-line, if I couldn't get one locally.

So...that seems like my best bet!

Might be able to check that out as early as tomorrow.
