The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I've stayed too long at the fair.

I'm going home to crawl under a blanket.

Thanks! Rose was tickled pink when I told her about it (which, if you know my Rose, is quite a trick...)

LOL!

I've only sent my resume out once...haven't seen a LOT of basic computer support jobs yet, but all it'll take is the right one, really. Tryin' to think of it that way.

My absolute IDEAL job would be in a department that has both UNIX and PC needs...where I could crosstrain. It's vey hard to get a UNIX admin type job without experience, but if I could get in on my PC credentials, it might just be the opening I need. UNIX, as I've mentioned before, is something that I find intriguing.

Oh, there's tons of room in the bedrooms. They're (IMHO) hugh. I am planning to keep my desk in mine, and it won't be crowded at all.

Like I said, I'm betting it's bigger than my house - the main floor, anyway! It's tiny.

Sometime I need to get some sort of desk, too. Something at least big enough to write on.

I'm loggin' off for the weekend...septic sucker still isn't here. Sigh. Been waiting all day.

Steve'll be home soon anyways. See you all later!

I'm betting we can pick something up pretty cheaply.

Oh - yeah - the apartment people said they had to replace the appliances (new stove and fridge) so the rent is going to be five or ten dollars higher than I told you Wednesday, but only that much (I'm still amazed at how low the rent is, honestly).

naw, it was just the battery. However, it wouldn't jump or anything.

We are looking at new cars, YES!!! I am so looking forward to something that isn't a 2-door coup. (I really miss my old explorer, even though it was only a 2-door.)

That's how I got started in Unix. As part of an overall upgrade my employer at the time bought a couple of Sun Sparc workstations to act as servers for our PC network. After a couple of years working there, I went on to get a job with another place as a full-time SunOS/Solaris admin.

This new job that I'm applying for would be as a Linux/Solaris admin (emphasis on the Linux). I haven't worked much with Linux, but the boss knows me and knows my work, so I may have an "in"... I hope I do anyway!

I think I am convincing PE that sooner is better than later on getting a new car :-)

I love working on SunSparc machines. I am not at liberty to tell you what all we used 'em for, but WOW are they cool!

Mmm...new stove. I can handle that!

Yeah, that still isn't bad at all.

I've had my car battery die on my like that, and it's no fun at all.

What kind of vehicle are you thinking of getting?

Long ago, when I was in the military...I was assigned as an administrator of several Sparc systems while on temporary duty for several months.

However, due to a clerical error, the person I was replacing was gone before I got there, and the other guy assigned with me hated my guts and didn't teach me much of anything.

I'd had a few basic classes in UNIX and I figured out just enough on my own to get by...but MAN would I like to really learn the stuff...

I guess I can pray for that. Whether or not I get it may be another matter, but...it's worth askin' for!

We are looking at the new Relay among other things. I at one time vowed I would not be caught driving a minivan, but right now, they are vey appealing. I want something that seats at least 5, and fits in the garage.

It's electric, sadly. And makes my pots smoke because they're lousy. I hope you have nice pots.

Let me tell you, the people I know all either pay 200 bucks more for their apartments, or have little apartments or nasty places. This is about the best apartment deal I've seen in Fort Collins.

Well... if you can get your hands on an old PC (a 386 would work, even) you could load a copy of Linux on it and have it as a learning system.

There's a Linux certification you can get, as well, that might help convince prospective employers to take you on even without a lot of work experience in that area.

OK...just posted my resume on Career Builder. With any luck, people will hunt ME down. If I did it right, which I'm not sure I did. It's a bit cumbersome.
