Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Tomorrow we may come this way...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

There is that really cool couple of weeks when you're all inspired about getting the awesome new job... before the regular bitchin'-about-work sets in. :-)

And a fine job you do...
As a database guy at heart, my mind just boggles at the sheer volume of data a company like yours deals with on a daily basis. Just damn...

You know, she needs to know about the leak. Not just because it offends you, but, seriesly, if she doesn't ~do~ anything about it mechanically, her car will suffer irrepairable damage.

And a fine job you do... You ol' flatterer, you! *wink*
Actually, and thankfully, most of the work is done by computer. The hardest part is making sure the data that goes in is correct.
I tell my clients all the time "Your payroll is only as good as the information I'm given."
On another note, we had TV crews wandering around our building on Monday putting together some kind of video/commercial to celebrate the company reaching 100k employees.
They had a bunch of us go outside and say dumb things to a camera guy on a ladder like "100 thousand and counting! WOOOO!" ~rolls eyes~
Then, one fella snuck up on me while I was working and I turned to find a camera in my face. Funny thing, my first reaction was to cover up the employee's SSN on the screen! LOL!
They've got us trained very well.
Oh, and don't let me even get started on the lovely new brand of hell that Sarbanes-Oxley has finally rbought upon us.....

Congratulations! Woo-hoo, indeed!
Now, I think I'm gonna take my wife out for steak and lobster to celebrate!
Sounds like a good plan. ;-)
Eek! Hope I can get a job quickly!

I had to explain that one to my very literate cousins. Alas.

Good evening!
Was going to skip the Irish session tonight, but went since my brother was kinda coerced into driving...I didn't wanna go out in the cold alone. ;-)
It was a good session! The tenor banjo player showed up for the first time in awhile and a new fiddle player, too. AND I went to get a Guiness and the bartender wouldn't let me pay for it. Ah...a good night.
I need to get out and relax a bit. I've been soooo worked up and nervous lately.

From John Ray ("
Dissecting Leftism", an Aussie Conservative and sadly Atheist blog):
"...give me a single liberal idea with some currency, even a structural notion, for transforming the elucidation of knowledge and thinking to the young. You can't.....
"This will not curb the liberal complaint. That complaint is not a matter of circumstance. It is a permanent affliction of the liberal mind. It is not a symptom; it is a condition."

Yes. I am getting my just desserts over teasing you about it months ago.
We are now required to initial every single no pay report indicating that we are aware that the employees listed on that particular page of the payroll audit report are not being paid on that particular payroll.
Every single payroll. Every single time. Grrr.....
And ....*drum roll*.....we must now attach every change, no matter how insignificant, to the payroll. And it must all be in writing from the client.
I have clients that won't even fax in standard changes like terminations and pay rate increases. How on earth am I supposed to get them to fax over or e-mail tiny changes without sounding insufferable?
*sigh*
