The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Some of the single syllables have several beats, and it sounds as if a couple more have been digitally "pushed together"...but it's there. "A Elberth Gilthoniel, silivren penna miriel..."

Thanks--I love that site. It directed me to "Rivendell" years ago when I was trying to hear the hymn (what I thought was one of JRRT's most important poems in the book)--but I could never figure out where EG was. I couldn't match the words to a tune. I only "heard" it by accident, sort of subconsciously, today when I was looking at the scene.

In some quarters, porch weathering is a plus.

Wish I were nearby...any structural issues, I'd handle 'em...

Because of paying them yesterday, I saved something like $75-$100.

Ain't that a good feelin? That's several Chinese dinners for the four of you!

I tucked it away...think I'll pull it out and give it to Joshua on the maiden cruise.

Joshua: "Thanks Mom, can I borrow the car keys?"

It turned out nicely! I didn't think they'd actually puff, but they did. Wasn't hard - just took a little while. I had one with hummus for dinner and put the rest away to have for lunches.

made brownies for the boys 'cause they got a compliment on their behavior both at the post office and at the tag agency.

What a nice reinforcement for good behavior!! You're a cool Mom!

Watching my post on the Siamese board. It's up to 14 views so far, two of which were me. Still...means it's getting looked at!

One response so far, telling me about a newsletter that lists Siamese needing rescue - it goes out several times a week. So I could add them to that, maybe. They charge a fee, but it isn't hugh, and it's used for rescue groups. I can live with that. But I'll wait a coupla days and see what happens, first.

I'm in a "get this crap out of my house" mood. Just listed four books for sale on Amazon.

I should be in that kind of mood, but I just bought 5 books from half.com last night! They're all books to help with the remodel, though; two books on color in decorating, and three on landscape design and construction. Got all five for less than $60, including shipping, so I was pleased!
