The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Sure, it's the weekend.

Rosie : once you're in CO just drive a little bit west and there is snow. Lots of it. Trust us on this. :-)

We had some pretty wierd weather here today. Little snow, a little rain, a little more snow, then blue sky and sunshine... little of everything.

Reading up on resignation letters. *sigh* It all seems so complicated! I guess I should really pick up a handbook and read what the rules are. The link to the on-line one is busted.

I'm also realizing this is the first irrevocable step. Even selling the house...I could still stay in the area. But there aren't lots of jobs here. If I turn in this letter...this is a done deal.

*bites nails*

I haven't seen that version.

Olivier's wartime version made me think of Sam...the sets and backdrops look like those medieval paintings.

You know how to write... use the examples you find as a guide, but it really only needs to be a few sentences letting them know when you are leaving, and a pleasantry or two so they know it's friendly.

You had snow? We had sunshine all day - warm out, and I took the horse's blankets off!

Writing the letter won't be horribly hard, I think. It's following the rules that makes me nervous! And I wonder who it will go to after I show it to my boss and what will happen and if there will be hard feelings from some in management or what.

I know, I know...I worry too much.

I don't know if there's really any rules. The only real key I think is to not burn the bridge.

People will understand that you wish to move on. They'll also respect the fact that you give them time to find a replacement. No worries.

As far as irrevocability goes... yes, that's true. Sometimes though, the thing that looks like a tall brick wall in front of you will only look like curb when it is behind you. :-)

I hope the Mr. likes turnips; I can't abide them

I thought you were from Mississippi. Doesn't a certificate of birth from the state of Mississippi come with a love of turnips? Come to think of it, you don't like beets either. You been up north too long. It messin' with your mind.

Master Terry likes greens ok. We could have gone out tonight. . .he asked if I wanted to, but just didn't want to spend the money, with taxes and hospital bills. Fun year. May try to make up for it and go with him when he has to work out of town again.

So how your evening going with SSQ?

You think it's about the right time? I don't wanna do it too early, but too late and it'll make life difficult for all involved.

I also don't know how vacation time gets accounted for - what i have accumulated, I mean. But I imagine that is for human resources to figger out.

Yah... saw that. Wish I'd bought some HK stock yesterday. Maybe not too late...

HK makes good stuff. Odd choice of calibers though.

It snowed on my way up, from Fife to about Des Moines. But still wet and rainy. It also rained/snowed off and on a lot of the morning. It was never going to stick or anything.

How much notice are you giving them? Anything more than two weeks is more than enough. One good thing about more notice is that they may even get someone in there and let *you* train your own replacement. I'm sure that would be much appreciated.

I just had a guy leave from the Bellevue office. Good guy, and was not happy to lose him, but the opportunity he had was a really good one. It was the right move for him at this point in his life. He gave a little over two weeks notice, and we brought in a temp (who we'll probably keep) and he had plenty of days to get him all trained up.

This really eased the transition. There were a lot of little daily details that would have been lost if somebody else had to train the new guy.
