The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You're making a class distinction based on the word 'bar', and it may or may not hold.... Here there are nice bars and dive bars, and both bright and dark taverns and pubs. The place ecurbh and I go to most is a bar, but it's bright with wood paneling, and no loud or live music. I'd say the word pub implies an English or Irish theme... and usually a stage for acoustical music... I don't recall there being any stage in The Green Dragon.... I'd say it's closer to what I would call a tavern.

Probably doesn't hold elsewhere. But in this one little town, pub usually means restaurant that also serves alcohol and is fairly nice, and bar means...dive.

So I've grown up thinking of bars as being smoky, noisy holes. Which I know isn't true, but...just sayin'.

And speaking of such...it's time to head home so I can get as much sorting and packing as possible done before I head to O'Shea's for the session!

Are the "pubs" you speak of open to minors? or are they primarily a 'bar' that also serves food and has music?

I think meeting a guy at a bar during an Irish Session would be just swell!

If'n a gal wants to be approached at all, that is...

Oh!

I meant the local commuter "light-rail" train that takes me to my job in Baltimore and back home.

Will Varner: I was young myself once. I used to hide in the greenery and hoot and bellow.

Clara: I'll bet you did. I'll bet you stayed longest and yelled loudest.

Will Varner: Your mama listened.
