The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

get this. the latest proposal is a high-speed train running from MEXICO to Dallas and on to Oklahoma.

EGADS. I am phobic concerning reconquista in the first place. This thing, if it ever gets approved would make it complete. Wonder if there is a thread on it yet...

Dumped water to start the day and dumped a cup of hot tea out on my desk to end the day... The only two times I was actually AT my desk today :P
It is a good thing my USB hub does not use an infinite improbability drive or who knows where my desk would have ended up.

I wonder how they verify the operating requirements of an infinite improbability drive... ouch, I have been writing to many requirements lately...
Time to go home! To bad I have a 4+ hour meeting tomorrow :P

I'll defer to Ramius and the others on buying hardware... I've loved my Dell and customer service came to my house to replace my Video card when it was under warranty... doesn't get better than that.

512 is pretty powerful for RAM. I'd think it's enough for you.

DVD burners are good if you want to store lots and lots on fewer disks. It's a matter of size, mostly; cds max out at 700mb, while depending on the dvd format you get several gigs.

is 512 good fer RAM, or do we go with a GIG...

Well, you can't have too much RAM, but it can be easily and cheaply added later, if'n you're so inclined.

finally found something on this. Evidently, what is giong on is that this thing was proposed in 2003, but is being introduced to Texas legislature TODAY.

I found a map of the proposed rail.

Saw a 'puter today. Did not buy.

"Medion", if that means anything to y'all. To me it means "something else I'd never heard of".

Pretty good specs 'n' all...P4 at 3 Ghz, 2 DVD drives (one writes), a buncha sockets 'n' stuff in the front (USB, SD, audio, etc.).

$599, at Aldi.

Aldi. The cheap grocery store.

Evening G'nad - we just finished up a big ol bowl of Garlic Soup. Dang, that were right tasty. LSA added some 'maters, gave it a bit o' color, it did. Thanks for the recipe.
