The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

So.... Ramius is fine, but Corin's computer is a boat anchor?

Not yet a boat anchor, but teetering on the edge and ready to splash in...

CPU Fan Not Detected

You can ignore that, as long as you make sure you have a fire extinguisher handy. Recommend CO2 type, not the Purple-K powder type. The purple powder really messes up electronics bad. Though... then again, so does fire. :-)

Uh-oh. The CPU fan is important. Fan replacement = cheap. Entire computer replacement != cheap.

If it's not under warranty, you not being a techie, take it to Best Buy or the local geek shop, give them your credit card, and say "fix it". Don't try running it without the fan.

Your brother's being a funny guy again. *wink*

Poor Corin. I can almost picture him crouched over the disassembled machine while Nana's asking him what he's doing and why is he taking the computer apart and can he stop for a second to get something for her from the attic.

All while Luke has run off with pieces of the broken CPU. *grinning*

Yah... yahknow... I remember breaking a motherboard once, trying to pry a cpu heat sink off.

Should I even ask what a CPU heat sink is? *puzzled look*

It pulls heat away from the cpu. Very big job.

Thanks for the simple explanation, Jen!

I'm absolutely terrible when it comes to these machines. You'd think after using them so long I'd know more. *sigh*

Heat Sink: the effect of emptying the office coffee urn in the lavatory.

Meh, it's weak, I know.

Going away...

I'm just glad you weren't insulted! LOL, I have trouble moderating between "technical" and "too simple".

Hey, I drive a car and I haven't much of a clue what's under the hood...

You and Jen made the same "car" comparison. *laughing*

Thanks for not making me feel stupid.
