The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Did everyone see the "loins that squeak" thread? One of the reasons for freeping is the hilarity that occurs around here.

I've seen ads for Lost, somewhere.

Hey there, sis.

Doggie question for ya...

My ol' Scruffy (11 yo) had surgery Friday to remove 2 lumps, one on the top of his head and the other on his poo-poo area. He's around 70+ pounds and I've been giving him 1/2 a Xtra Strength Tylenol twice a day for pain.

Was that usually enough for Logan or Gidget or did you give either of them a whole one when they needed it?

I feel like I can't keep track of any more...

You should definitely avoid Lost then... while there are originally 48 survivors on the island, the show limits its focus to about 14 main characters. ;)

Evening Bear - we recall it was your positive comments bout LOST that got us to give it a shot. Locke rocks!

You'll probably smack me for mentioning anime...

No, it's really more of a pity thing...(relax, I'm joking)

Seriesly tho, I just don't see the attraction. I'm happy to leave it all for you to enjoy.

Hi Sam!

I'm doing wonderfully as are the girls. Thanks for asking.

I'm just fretting over my oldest dog. This has been a tough weekend seeing him all stitched up and sore.

The results on the tumor on his bottom should be back by the end of the week. The lump on the top of his head was not a tumor, but actually a nasty pocket of stuff that has been there since before I rescued him.

It just recently grew larger and I had it removed since he was going under anesthesia anyway. Doc thinks it was formed by a severe blow to the head when he was a puppy. :-(

I just like being a contrarian sometimes.

Really? I've never noticed that. ;-)

To be fair, I read your list, and we don't get the SciFi Channel anymore...

Locke rocks!

Rose was impressed by the scene where Locke flipped open his luggage case to reveal it packed with knives... she liked that a lot! ;)

Evening Ruthie - Had to admit I darn near didn't recognize him. Just occasionally I can see the same character. He's grown into his new one well.

Oh yeah. Got hooked up with the DVDs for Christmas and am kicking myself for not really 'discovering' the series earlier. I'm really looking forward to the movie.

In our household we watch: 1) news 2) sports 3) scifi. And that's about it. Occasionally I'll squeeze in some DIY while I'm puttering about doing household chores. (I do my freeping when the sports are on....)

Evenin' Master Stormhands.

I'm getting DirectTV tomorrow as a result of a bitter fight with Comcast. They removed half of my channels and are now asking TRIPLE than what I was paying before to have them restored.

A pox on cable company monopolies! I'm getting a dish.

Evenin Osage!

I've finally started calling him "Charlie" to my cubicle friends, after weeks of calling him "Merry". *grin*

Let me know what you think about DirectTV. We have our Internet with Comcast, so there'd be other issues...although maybe not...

See, if it were just pretty pictures, I'd agree with you. No appeal. The fact is there are a few anime shows that tell stories that you just don't see much on tv. Or didn't. Nowadays there are shows like 24 or Lost that telling grand sweeping tales. But there still aren't many fun fantasy or SF shows that can avoid the episodic "Star Trek" style. I would guess it's because most tv show producers don't want shows that, if you miss two episodes, you get completely lost.

But I absolutely understand that it's an acquired taste. You're no more likely to start liking it than I am to start watching South Park.

I most certainly will.

I already know I'm getting a better bang for the buck. ~$55.00 gets me 125 channels with free HBO and Cinemax for 3 months. And installation in up to 4 rooms is free.

Comcast wants to charge me the same thing for channels 2-75. Not digital, just "plug in from the wall" cable. And not a freebie in sight.

Reception is the only issue I'll be watching closely, but neighbors who have it say they never have a problem unless the weather gets really bad.

And usually we lose power in bad weather anyway, so the TV's off anyhow.

Our local cable (Time Warner) franchise is very SF-fan friendly... when the local UPN station bit the dust, they made a deal to carry San Antonio's UPN station so that local fans could watch Enterprise when it debuted.
