Friday, June 21, 2005 | Slip 18

Posted on 01/21/2005 7:11:38 AM PST by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs as always. Subbie is also here for THREE days. So you better be nice, otherwise you get coal on your face. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

TUCKER
Verb

This word is pronounced “tuk er”

Etymology: I don’t know.

Verb:

1) Exhaust, fatigue.

I know what naughty words rhyme with this one, so be careful!

I love the music, of course, but don't care much for the plots, staging, costumes, hoopla, etc. I like to listen at home where I can see a staging in my imagination much better than any director is likely to devise. George Bernard Shaw was the same way: he used to review opera and concert performances (in the 19th century, before recordings). He would attend Wagner operas and listen with his eyes closed and imagine his own scenery, staging etc. Also, most opera singers are pretty lousy actors. :^)

For opera, your Butterfly composer Giacomo Puccini was probably the most consistently great melodist.

That is so weird. I've never actually gone to an opera when I lived in LA, and I don't think there are any here, but I've always listened to the music with my eyes closed. My imagination takes me far away.

Before I met Cyber when I was alone those long three years, I fell asleep to Celine Dion every night. I know most guys dislike her immensely. The only CD I've owned of hers is her French Album. I have no idea of what she sings. I don't speak French well enough. But it was so soothing for me. Words would go around my brain, and it let me fall asleep. Hypnosis, sort of, kind of.

Music is a language everyone speaks.

Oh, there's some opera in your neck of the woods. It tends to be pretty expensive to go these days.

Thank you. Maybe for my birthday, we'll see Phantom of the Opera! Do you think?

..... Finally, Husky girl picked it up in her mouth to take to the pile of her stuffed toys in the living room. The minute she moved it, the motion activated flashing and chirping began again, and she dropped it on the floor like it was electrified and backed off three feet or so to watch, cocking her head back and forth. Then when it shut up again, both she and Kitty boy started batting it around the floor again .....

haha! You planted that whole story in my mind just as if I was there to see it myself. Thanks.
