Comparison of Pilot traditions:
Navy: On a carrier, the Naval Aviator looks over at the Catapult Officer ("Shooter") who gives the run up engines signal by rotating his finger above his head. The pilot pushes the throttle forward, verifies all flight controls are operational, checks all gauges, and gives the Cat officer a brisk salute, continuing the Navy tradition of asking permission to leave the ship. The Cat officer drops to one knee while swooping his arm forward and pointing down deck, granting that permission. The Navy pilot is immediately catapulted airborne.
Air Force: We've all seen Air Force pilots at the air base look up just before taxi for takeoff and the ground crew waits until the pilot's thumb is sticking straight up. The crew chief then confirms that he sees the thumb, salutes, and the Air Force pilot then takes off. This time-tested tradition is the last link in the Air Force safety net to confirm that the pilot does not have both thumbs up his @ss on takeoff.

Sorry for the overnight, but got home and wife had to go on line to spend some money. Oh, well!
The plane went down approximately 10 miles off shore, but close to where I live in Southampton. The plane wreckage was brought to the Shinnecock CG Station which is 5 miles from my home, and the plane reassembled at the old Grumman facility in Calverton approximately 20 miles away. At the time I was working as an Assistant District Attorney and had some contact with PD and others who were involved in recovery, etc.
One of the detectives that was assigned to my unit had a day off and was coming back from Montauk Point with an out of town relative who was visiting and both of them saw what they believed to be (based on military experience) a missile streak in the air. The FBI didn't seem interested, according to him.
This case still stinks to my mind, and I don't buy the "theory" of a Navy sub- especially after the incident with the Israeli plane in Africa.
Anybody up?
Good morning.
My cable internet was out most of the night. Not me, though. I was only out for a little while.
I'm up.
Don't you just hate when that happens?
I'm awake...but going to be late for work if I don't get ready....I kinda overslept this a.m. I stayed up late and watched Boxer Shorts excoriate poor Condi. What a b*tch she is. Unbelievable.
I'll be listening on the radio to part II of her rant today, and then more grilling by the other hypocritical lying Rats, as well.
Hope you all have a great day. And talk with ya later tonight after work!
Yes, but the question is, "what are you up to? ;-)
Mornin' Darks. Well, I gotta get to work to try and catch up (yeah right) all the stuff I DIDN'T get done yesterday due to being unavoidably (and unwillingly, I might add) diverted.
