The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Evening OT; kewl for the pancake breakfast.

You going to get a garden 'dwarf' to keep the flamingo company?

Yah. People are pretty sensitive around here too, sometimes with decent reason, but oftentimes without. Seems you can't even move a plant without somebody getting all huffy about it.

hope you survived the Perfesser.

Mwahaha.... we survived. Heh heh heh. We got the plagiariser off our team. The professor said we were absolutely right to bring it to him. And he confirmed what I thought, that we could have been severely penalized if we hadn't found him out...

Exactly.

In other news, they've finally gotten around to interviewing for a new payroll rep.

We need more along the lines of 3 new reps, but they only approved one requisition. One's better than none at this point. *grin*

BTW, are you driving down with Hair and ecurbh for ShootMoot or flying alone?

I'm here...

Sigh. I absolutely hate group projects. Now that we've gotten rid of Mr. Plagiarist, it's obvious that another member of our team is incompetent and lazy; my galpal and I are having to scramble to cover his section here...

I think the reason they always have those interminable group projects in college is twofold: 1) to keep the prof from having to grade so many papers, and 2) to teach that committees are useless as a method to actually get anything done.

I agree... but this is graduate school, you'd think people would understand "research this topic and write a four-page section for including in the group paper", wouldn't you?

I dunno... I met a lot of dimwits in grad school. Had to do "team" projects with them too... like anywhere else and like in bidness... a couple of people drive the project and the rest just hang on with the minimum.

So what if there's no "I" in "team". There ain't no "you" or "me" there either. :-)

There's a "me"... for "this is my grade we're talking about".

It's just not nice that some people have four hard-working members, while we effectively have two.

Yah. I guess the only thing to do is work for your own grade. Sometimes that means other team members ride for free... so be it.

It's a pretty safe bet that all the other groups have the same issues.

One thing I've noticed about committees... is they get set up whenever there's a project that the groupthink suggests might be important, but nobody really wants to do-- and for sure nobody wants to "own" it. They're great for putting stuff off until next year's budget. :-)
