The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

The only problem I have with that is that it sets up this idea that elves never get drunk...what are they going to do to explain Bilbo's escape from the Elven King in Mirkwood? Tolkien said the wine was pretty potent, but still...

I agree though : it was a funny scene.

I liked Pip's reaction to seeing Gandalf too. *WISH* that had been included in the theatrical version.

They make us move to a new hole after we have trashed out the other one. No musty old Took holes here...(borrowing from Pippin that is!) LOL

Then you'll definitely love the EE. And yeah, more in the theatrical version would have been nice. I think the one difficulty they had though is that once they were in Mordor, there really wasnt much else except getting up the side of Mt Doom.

What bugs me is that there wree pictures revealed early on in the promos and throughout of various tantalizing scenes, but they STILL didnt show up in the EE...like Arwen in Lorien with Galadriel, or Eowyn and Faramir kissing (which I know was filmed).

*sigh* Faramir!

Can they clone that Aussie (David Wenham) for us please???????????

Bad enough as it sits that sometimes it gets snarled and knotted up.
Or it gets sand or mud stuck to it at the beach, and so I end up having to detangle it and de-gunkify it.

Though said toes sound Hobbitish, I fear I would be rather tall for a Hobbit.
