The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well... it is scary only in looking at the place I was, and then after the fact.

It wasn't scary at the time, as much as it was disorienting. I have zero recall of anything on the way off the road. When I came to the jeep had already stopped moving. It went from one moment being fine to the next moment sitting there not knowing what had happened.

This is particularly amazing when you see the damage done, and especially the left front wheel. The tire was shredded and the steel whell was bent sortof-- in half. It must have connected full-on with a stump on the way down. You'd think that woulda' woke me up.

HELP! I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it, but I've lost the "relationship data" (not the mailing address) of Sgt. Scott Bradford. I know he's the "adopted GI" of a Freeper who's a friend of someone here in the Hobbit Hole. I just lost the "chain of custody" of who's who. I need this info to write a coherent cover letter to go with his Hobbit Hole CRKT/Camillus combo.

The answer is several hundred posts back, but I'm hoping someone can help short-circuit the process.

eat a carrot fercryinoutloud...

What kind of a diet is that? I prefer the "eat a pound of meat for dinner" diet even if it does get boring.

Dang, Ramius! What the heck....?

So... how was everybody else's weekend? :-)

Well...I decided I was going to do a full install of Win98. Then I realized that I've got only the upgrade version of Win 98 and the full version Win95 disk is in NC. Doh!

Thank God you're OK, Ramius! I come back from Tampa and I'm still at work because of it and this is what I read before clocking out? Sheesh!

Seriously though, I'm really glad you're OK.

I'll be back later hopefully. Still trying to wrap things up here at the office so I can go home.

Hair & ecurbh - glad you got it. :-D

Be back later everyone! I still have some hope of catching up on the thread.

Master Sea-man, I'm really glad you're okay, and I'm really concerned about your health.

Have you been sleeping well? Have you considered doing a sleep study? If you have sleep apnea, you may not be getting the rest you need ... leaving you in a state where you might "click off" like that.

When did you last have a full checkup? Treadmill and catscan and such-like?

That's an "oh crap!" moment for you... had you started the install?

My case came so tonight or tomorrow I'm going to start assembling my computer... course, who knows when it'll be in a working state...

Ohh... brave woman... I distrust alternate operating systems, they always seem to go badly for me. I laughed in the face of the last guy who told me to put Linux on my laptop.

Holy cow is right!!

Were you doing anything that might have caused your throat and abdominal muscles to be tight? I know that sounds silly, but being tensed up (or bearing down) in your throat and abdominal area causes a response we call "vagaling down", or Vasovagal Syncope where the vagal nerve is stimulated and causes your heart to actually go real slow and you faint. It can happen to anyone, but is especially dangerous to those with a heart condition, because the heart don't speed back up again.

Elvis died from this, btw...he tighened up his abdominal muscles while doing what thenewboy did and vagaled down and didn't vagal back up again.

It's what causes people to faint a lot of times, though...something gets them upset or they just tense up for some reason and down they go. Steve can't stand the sight of blood...causes him to tense up and he faints. It's why he fainted in the ER when Matthew got bit by our dog.

Thanks everybody for the good wishes.

The doc gave me a good checkup, and made some good recommendations. I figure I'll go with it.

Well... Dad's new computer has arrived and is being set up, so I'll be back later once he's all taken care of.

If I go that way, please ecurbh, don't tell anyone.
