The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

What's her other book like, the one...something about Lincoln? Do you know what I mean?

Yes, "Lincoln's Dreams" wasn't very good. Have you read "Passage" or "Bellwether" yet? Passage is great, and Bellwether funny. Some of her short stories are good, some are horrible. :-(

I read Passage in...September or so? Haven't read Bellwether. I think that's one I'd have to actually order. Not in the library system.

Ah, well, it's cute, but not big and impactful like the other three.

Her earliest work shows promise but she hadn't really figured herself out as a writer yet, I think, and did some things she'll probably regret... possibly why she is taking five years to write her current book, sigh.

Any news on when it's due out?

It's another time travel one, isn't it?

I don't know. Haven't heard. Hopefully soon.

Yes, all I know is it's time travel, it's got Mr. Dunworthy, and the Blitz. I don't even know the title.

Should be worth waiting for! Let me know if you hear anything.

As if I need to bug you about such things! ;-)

Oh, of course I'll let you know! Honestly I'm getting tired of waiting for my favorite authors to finish their next book.

Sigh...

Parents on their way back from dropping my sister at the airport. Littlest brother hasn't figured out she's gone again, yet.

Poor little guy...

Glad they made it there safely, though!

There, yes. Hopefully she catches her flight in Chicago or she might get re-routed through Paris or something equally dreadful.

Right, TPL, it looks like my sister's going to have trouble catching her connecting flight - according to the airline's web page, her current flight has been delayed two hours which means her other flight would leave long before she gets to Chicago...

You got it!

Been there, done that...my very first flight to Germany. Luckily they were able to put me on a later flight, but it meant I arrived and had no one to pick me up.

Well, she's not getting picked up, so it doesn't technically matter when she gets in. But I'm sure she'll be worried. And she might get held over in Chicago until tomorrow.
