The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Good morning.

Happy Monday is an oxymoron.

Especially when the roads are icy.

They're better now than they were yesterday, though. Was out at the house when a sleet / freezing rain mix started coming down. Gosh, I hate that *sound*! I waited long enough for the trucks to have started out with salt but not long enough for much more of the stuff to have come down and headed home. Took the interstate assuming I'd go slow - it's the straightest, least hilly route, and ya know when it's icy you notice even the SLIGHTEST incline!

I went 25 mph the whole way, sometimes more like 15. I figured I was pretty much guaranteed to go off the road at some point, but at least I'd go off slowly. Nobody tried to pass me, even at that speed. That's how bad it was.

When I got home and got inside, I started shaking all over. Darn near cried. Those were by far the worst driving conditions I've been out in.

Can I pleeeeeaaaase have some nice -30 weather?

It's raining here but there's freezing rain north of us. They're saying freezing stuff tomorrow night, though.

Good Morning All - 'tomorrow might be a repeat of Jan 2002' quoteth the weatherweenie. We shall not be pleased. However, it may not come to pass and will hold to that thought.

Rosie - you did good. Icy roads are tough to negotiate.

OT - best get bread, milk, coffee, and tuna. :-)

I just wish it'd hurry up and get cold first. Cold is a pain, but I can live with it. But one ice storm after another isn't my idea of a proper winter.

Couple more months and this weather will pass, the land will begin to grow and bloom with new life!

Mornin'. It's gonna be in the high 60s here today. Trouble is, we know it won't last. I'd rather it stay cold and not tease us like this.

Thought it was gonna be one of ~those~ mornings...and it kinda still is...

Got Jr. up and ready for school, then went to the gym. First mornin' for puttin' in the contacts at the gym. Did okay with the left, but I was tryin' out the new extended wear version they gave me. Dropped the right one. When I found it, it was torn...sigh...back to the one day wear.

Then the shirt the cleaners had to redo (their fault) was missin' a button, and one of the collar buttons is broken, but functioning...

Thought it was gonna be a three-fer, but I found my security pass in the pocket of my raincoat. So all was good.

Then I started opening up email. Sigh...they're baaaaaack.

I got emails that Rasputin sent out on Saturday - New Year's Day.

That's just frickin' sick.

383 days...not that I'm counting...

Icy roads always make me nervous. What's worse is when they're just on the edge of being icy and you're just not sure if you're going to hit a patch of ice you didn't notice and spin out. *shudder*
