The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

They also make heated seat cushions that plug into the lighter socket.

Good morning!

In my bid to make everyone (except possibly winmag) feel better about their own temps, I would like to announce that it's -20 here. Considering they thought it could hit -30, I s'pose I should be grateful...

Even inside...the animals decided to forgive any past differences. I think the three cats all slept in one heap near one of the heating vents. ;-) Poor kitties!

Coffee gone...off to do upgrades.

Gee... it's 34 here... any colder and it'd be almost freezing!

Good morning!

That's right...he's the son of a friend of Celeste's (my best friend). The knife is stunning!

I usually have no problem knowing what to say to someone, but in this case, I don't feel qualified. I wouldn't even know where to begin and am afraid I might say something wrong...

G'nad...whattaya think? Have you had experience with this kind of thing? Could you come up with a cover letter for 300wm to express the Hole's appreciation adequately and appropriately?

Brrr...that's just wrong. And that's why I've never wanted to live north of the Potomac...actually north of the Rapphahannock...well, okay north of the James...

Nana's been aching since we took her to church on Sunday. She got cold (it was chilly, but not as bad as yesterday). 'Course yesterday she was sitting by the back door watching Luke play in the snow. She was wearing a nightgown and a house dress, both short sleeved. Wife told her "if you don't get dressed you can't complain about being cold."

She really is doing much better. Still, it's like raising another child.

Any interest here in a group reading of LoTR again? I'm ready now to read it again, having now seen PJ tell the whole story his way, to refresh my memory from the books.

ecurbh and I have just barely started, starting with The Hobbit. which I haven't read in an age.

I don't think we have to do it ~as~ formally as we did in the Green Dragon, but if there are a few others who would wish to discuss book chapters here on something of a schedule to keep us together, we'd be willing. Would be fun!

I'd be willing to give it a try, as long as there's no tests involved.

Can we start after Christmas?

Good morning.... it's quite a bit warmer here... About 20 already and it might get too warm. Sunny so far.

Oldest bother's birthday. He's sixteen. He will not be getting a license any time soon. He's out with Mom.

Dad only gets Christmas Eve off; the joys of being somewhat self-employed. He is enjoying impressing me with what he's doing since I'm the only one of us who has a clue.

The middle bothers are making blueberry muffins and squeeking happily about the new Harry Potter book. Stone has a shirt he made himself. It says "The world is quite here". The typo is in the original.

In practice, It would probably end up starting after Christmas. ecurbh and I have already started, but just a few pages, and we'll be wrapped up in Christmas next few days too.
