The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

winmag... too bad the little suicase safe dealy won't fit a pump. That's the only long gun I own :~D

Actually, all of the illustrations show a pump shotgun being used.

Good afternoon everyone!

I'm getting all of my stuff organized here so I can get ready for tonight. Going to a "real" party for the first time in a long time.

Girls have a babysitter (miracles never cease!), so I'll be able to go out. It's a bit bittersweet because I'd really rather be home with them, but I know if I don't get out and blow some steam, I won't be any good to anybody.

I'll definitely try to hop back on later before heading out, but I wanted to say HAPPY NEW YEAR in case I don't get the chance.

Love you guys!

They let us off work early and I'm back from shopping. I'm not going out again so you get what you get, OB! :)

Yes, I remembered the Guiness.

We always let the kids have a taste. They're at home, and not going anywhere! Now that the boys are 'of age', they can have a glass or two along with us. I just bought some more Ballatore 'Asti Spumante', but Paul might make some Mulled Wine as well.

Mmmm...mulled wine. It was for sale everywhere you went in Germany this time of year - all the Christmas markets and such. Haven't had it since I've been back!

Good Evening Sam - Happy New Year. Thanks for the heads up on the King Arthur movie. The bow shooting generally comes under close scrutiny in our house. :-)

Some great archery scenes are in the Errol Flynn version of Robin Hood. All the stunt shooting was done by the legendary Howard Hill. He used an 80 lb longbow and there were no digital shots in those days. Those were real shots.

Evening OT, same here. It was amazing this morning driving in. Guess there weren't many of us working today. But MONDAY is off.

LSA just read the post and said. 'Guiness, mnnnnnn.' WYSIWYG is fine with us.

Sam, very impressive, Faramir's ranging company has nothing on your muster. Very nice work, my FRiend. Thanks for posting.

I'm a little embarrassed though. Would you believe that I don't have any beer mugs?

LOL, well, if you recall, we didn't have them the first time you came over here either. LSA asks if you would like her to bring the pair we have?

The kids didn't really want me to post their pics on the internet, but thought that dark one was OK.

Apologies for the position of my right hand above.

:)

If you want to . Otherwise you'll be drinking it out of iced tea glasses or out of the bottle. I might have a big plastic cup from a restaurant lying around. I do have my travel mugs...they might do in a pinch, but they don't match.

Sam, nice pics, those are good looking bows. Tiller looks good. "By Jove, I think he's got it." :-)

I found a package of Mulling spices at the King Arthur Store! I bought a bottle of "Red Truck" wine at a local place. It's not that great to drink straight, but it ought to be fine when mulled.

Great looking bows, Sam!! I'll bet the kids had great fun! Are y'all still up in VA visiting family? The surroundings in the picture don't look very 'Miami' to me. ;o)

I don't know too much yet about bows, but I do think they came out pretty good, they seem to arc evenly and gracefully to me and have a weight of just about exactly 50# at 28 inches, I'm still excited about the whole thing and am going to make a couple more.

Osage, I noticed that the ones you gave g'nad's kids seem to have a little bit of recurve?
