Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Though we pass them by today...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

LOL! I didn't even think about that. Do I want to know what the rest of the site is dedicated to? Prolly not! ;-)

I'm shaky on the definition of short story. I think 30k would be about right. Longer than that is a novella - or maybe a novellette - and then once you hit 75k or so it's within novel length. Every genre has its own definition, too. In fantasy, it's not a novel unless it's 523 pages long, minimum, in the hardcover version... or so it seems.

Rosie; although it doesn't sound good, some are benign. Please keep us posted.

I had a girlfriend once that was into the "dungeon" thing. I just couldn't keep a strait face. Apparently I kept spoiling the mood. She gave up on me.
:-)
Just kidding. Mostly.

What's really stupid, is they get chased a lot by cops... and they might get away if they didn't trip over their pants. Which is exactly the point of our rule. If you have to be holding up your pants to run, then your hair has to be short enough to stay out of your eyes.
'Course then there would be the whole reason as to why you wuz runnin' from the police to begin with...
To: Corin Stormhands
See, we are trained not to run from the police, because they'll catch you and beat you to death with a flashlight.

Sure, its funny, till *you* take a date home for the first time and ask, innocently... "so... what's that trapeze for?"
hehehe... Yikes! I'm outta here...

Can someone *please* explain to me how in today's world this is now somehow "cool"?? Don't know what Dave Barry said, but the best explanation I heard was that it was a "gang thing", along with colors.
It shows that you've either been in jail, or aren't afraid of going to jail. The drooping pants and underwear are an "easy access" thing. (Sorry).

Um... not gonna be an issue because my sex-free policy will be made clear to any potential dates before we get that far, and anyone into... trapeze stuff... should be scared off...

I swear I haven't been drinking (although for the life of me I don't know why).
But I just took my contacts out, maybe that's it.
I just read your tagline and thought it said "I bid you stand. Mae of the West!"
Sorta fit the conversation in an odd sort of way...
To: 300winmag
Which only adds to the mystery of why it might somehow be "cool".

That's what *I* thought. Needless to say, it all came as a great surprise to me.
