The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

So does Jr also have instructions to pull the plug if necessary?

We haven't done anything about that officially. But it's prolly time.

Well, you got a different situation, mine was completely gone, just a hole in the trigger guard. Yours would be more tha a bit disconcerting. That might be worth a bit of tinkering.

btw, I had one of those '91s, enjoyed shooting it but ammo was pricey. Liked the 96 Swede better. Both long gone though.

With Jr. we pick our battles. Some of 'em ain't worth fighting.

Hair length is one of 'em.

Roger that. Will take that advice. :-)

My POS mossberg has been fun, what with the interchangable barrels and such. I got it with both the long and 18.5in barrels, and most of the time it lives with the short barrel and the short pistol-grip stock in it. Very useful configuration, actually.

But: I have learned one thing, and that is to *not* shoot 3" magnum buckshot with the pistol grips.

Ouch. Not fun, that.

Ew...looks awfully messy!

Fun, but messy.

Good evening, folkses!

You are very wise...picking battles is good. And hair length doesn't endanger his health or salvation, right?

Evening Rosie!

How went the marathon? I had a nice day, we got in free to the movie ;-). Now I'm writing.

No, but we have a rule. You must always be prepared to run from danger.

Therefore, your pants must be around your waist. You cannot run from danger holding up your pants whilst also brushing the hair from your eyes.

It's a choice.

Choose responsibly.

As it turned out, various members didn't arrive until late in the day, so the "marathon" became just ROTK (which is still OK), and we only got through the first disc of that - we're going to continue when I get off work tomorrow.

You can probably guess my two favorite additions so far. ;-) I'm still not completely letting PJ off the hook for how he changed Faramir, but some of the additions really helped, IMO.

Yah... my 1891 mauser was once a fine rifle, but its been so heavily sporterized and chopped up (I think some former owner even shortened the barrel on it, along with getting rid of the standard wood stocks top and bottom.)

Some time many years ago I'm sure it was a good rifle. Today it is interesting only in being a competent copy of a mauser action in its historical context.

The thing doesn't shoot worth a damn. It's so bad, that at a hundred yards from a benchrest, it doesn't even hit a three foot square target. And at more than $2 per shot, I don't have that much interest in sighting it in. :-)

I decided to take it as a curiousity, and as such it will remain.

Ah, but shaggy hair is so much better than sagging pants. I want to run around handing belts out.

And that's a wonderful rule. My sibs and I often just randomly shout out "constant vigilance!" or something else designed to get us to be prepared for attacks by Democrats, ninja, or giant crabs.

Heh, probably the same as my two additions...

This one was definitely "front-loaded", I think most of the additions were in the first half of the film.

Tomorrow work is likely to be slow...should get in time to read more of your story, and to type in what I've written of mine over the past few days. I'm rather fond of it, poor and paltry as it is!

It's a pretty original idea, in any case...I think! And I'm kinda proud of that.

Oh! Your story! Right, I had meant to read that today... off to hunt it down... I need a break from writing anyway. Did about 2k off and on this afternoon.

Unfortunately I have a feeling it's going to be something shorter than true novel length. Not that it really matters...but I like it enough I'd like to do something real with it. Polish it up.

Maybe in the rewrite!

Ah, found it... strange... either "Elhar" is a real word or I've used it before, since my spellchecker doesn't find anything wrong with it...

And in the bad news for the week...I found a lump on the old kitty today. I think it's back.

*sigh*

It's very small, and could be nothing, but I guess I should be making an appointment in the next month or so.
