Marijuana alternative, 'Oakijuana' & what some friends do with weed

I have a friend in Boulder who is into astrology, natural healing, hugging trees, massage therapy, etc. She cannot afford to buy marijuana all the time so she gathers the leaves from oak trees while in season and creates a joint from the leaves to smoke. She calls it... 'oakijuana'.

A couple I know who lives up in the foothills west of Boulder grows their own marijuana in the basement. In the wintertime they invite friends over for evening parties where everyone gathers around the fire. The unique part of this gathering is that they burn marijuana leaves in the fire. You wouldn't believe what their entertainment room smells like!

The only time I've ever even been close to being drunk, high or stoned was during the 1979 Labor Day WEBN fireworks along the Ohio riverfront in Cincinnati. We were walking around looking for a spot to watch the fireworks display when we came across a bunch of college students blasting "Free Bird" by the great, one and only Mr. Lynard Skynard and the smell of marijuana was everywhere. I was almost overcome by it, but recovered within a few minutes.

Smoking oak leaves to get high sounds like one of those urban myths which everyone under 40 used to hear about in high school -- such as scraping the inside of a banana peel and smoking it, smoking pine needles, etc.. Maybe she's just getting "high" from lack of oxygen to the brain.
