Sorry was in the mist of a withdraw episode. I'm in South Florida. A town just North of (Chad) West Palm Beach called Jupiter, where the left is really out in orbit. I lost my Late Model and trailer in the hurricanes. So I'll race anything right now.

"NASCAR's looking at killing the lucky dog next year"

No racing right now for 88 days, now this?

Waaaaaaa Seriously though, it's quite possible that if they eliminate the dawg the lap down cars will be more desperate to pass the lead car to get their lap back and create more problems!! Jayski does have a list somewhere of who got the pass and how many times. Seems to me, usually, one of the worthy cars got it.

I know the feeling.

Sorry you lost your car in the storms. I'm in a small town NW of Corpus Christi and we get them too, just not quite the frequency ya'll did this year.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.....

Did you know it's going to be cold?

lol

Actually Thanksgiving morning here is predicted to be 33 degrees.

Not exactly racing weather.

I could get CK to race me around the up and down hills we have here. It's kind of like a road course. Only problem is his car is a lot smaller than mine, so I would lose even before the start!! Wouldn't be like when we used to run the course over Coldwater Canyon in California years ago late at night.

Hope you are better today, well, at least not any worse. when I saw your post on the Earnhardt shows last night, I immediately changed to ESPN and couldn't find it. THEN I actually read what you sent, starts in December. :)

One last article re: Busch written just prior to the last race. This article articulates the pro and con about him here, so I'm posting this for those who love him and those that don't.

Ed Hardin: Kurt Busch, the champ no one wants

11-21-04

HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- People don't like the way Kurt Busch looks, and they don't like the way he talks and they don't like the way he acts. Otherwise, they like him just fine.

His fellow drivers basically hate him. His own teammates seem to only tolerate him. And even NASCAR itself has a hard time dealing with him.

So by the end of the day today, a lot of people are going to be really upset if the first Nextel Cup champion is not Jeff Gordon or Jimmie Johnson or Mark Martin or Dale Earnhardt Jr. A lot of people are going to be sickened by the thought of Kurt Busch winning the title.

He's a marketing nightmare, a pointy headed 26-year-old kid with big ears. He doesn't smile very much, and when he does it looks fake. He talks like a 26-year-old kid who reads a thesaurus in his spare time. He uses words like "circumferences," which is really not a word at all, and "eradicate," which is an excellent word for anyone on earth except a race-car driver.

So when Kurt Busch wins the championship today, and a lot of people are certain he's going to do just that, the new face of racing will be the one face no one in racing can stand to look at.

There's an emerging opinion that Busch will not see the checkered flag today, that one of his many enemies on and off the track will conspire to see that he doesn't win the title. It's probably a good thing that Jimmy Spencer's not in the race, but it can't be a good thing for Busch that Robby Gordon is. It's probably a good thing that Bill France Jr. is no longer around the track very much, but it can't be a good thing that Mike Helton is.

He's managed to infuriate them all, once getting punched in the face by Spencer and then booed by fans at the next race, which Busch won. He was caught on radio two years ago cussing out Helton, the president of NASCAR. He admitted to purposely running into Gordon to bring out a caution flag, and later said he considered brushing up against another car to mess up the aerodynamics. (WCG Note: Where was the penalty?)

We probably need to insert something here, something that almost no one wants to admit and absolutely no one wants to acknowledge to Busch: He might be the best driver in racing.

Busch does things with a race car that few people will even attempt, that few people would even think of. Busch drives into situations others wouldn't consider safe. He drives onto the apron. He drives through the infield grass. He drives four-wide at Talladega, brushing alongside one car to catch a side draft and another to alter its aerodynamics and comes out of it fishtailing toward the wall and headed to the front.

Busch is a great driver, even if no one wants to admit it.

Instead, what you hear people say is stuff like "We need to put a restrictor plate on his foot because his foot obviously doesn't register with this brain." Kevin Harvick said that after tangling with Busch last year. There are other assessments of the 26-year-old from Las Vegas.

"Kurt has a lot to learn," Spencer said two years ago. "A lot of that is to control his mouth."

He can control a car, however. We saw that at Charlotte this year and at Darlington last year and at Bristol the last three years, and through the pressure-packed championship chase, what with Johnson running him down like a shadow, we've seen Busch mature as a driver and a person.

He hasn't infuriated anyone in weeks. He hasn't used the word "circumferences" in months and he hasn't stood in the middle of a super-speedway pointing at his rear end then getting busted in the mouth after threatening to kill one of his fellow drivers in, oh, a year or so.

Busch says he grew up while we weren't looking. Well, what he says is "I haven't had the time to develop a rapport with anybody or a specific notion on who I am because it continues to change so rapidly."

Whatever.

He has the face of a pharmaceutical salesman, which he went to school for. He has the face of Ichabod Crane, which people in the garage call him behind his back. By the end of this afternoon, he just might be the new face of NASCAR.

That would be this page. 2 dawgs came back to win the race (Newman and Martin, though Martin's was controvercial - NASCAR later admitted that Blaney should've got the pardon that was critical in Martin winning). Petty led the pack with 13, and Busch and Johnson had the least of the regular drivers with 1 apiece.

IMHO, they should let the leader's crew chief decide (quickly) who (if anyone) gets a lap back, as long as they're within a certain distance of the leader when the caution flies and there's no denied lapped cars between them and the leader. They can (and should) keep the "end of the longest line" for the pardoned cars.

I wish they did more road courses and less ovals.

I've really gotten into Formula 1 because of that.

However, I still like NASCAR!

I enjoy the FR threads and the fun with all the crazy NASCAR rules and flubs. WCG you are a great fan of the sport and you are fun to read. I should spend a bit more time typing instead of throwing things into a thread.

I had a good season this year, might be the biggest ever. I attended Richmond, The Pepsi 400, both Pocono races and the fall Dover race. I must say Daytona was much more impressive live that I ever thought it would be. Dover still is the loud, fast two lane race track that is pure rumble. I was at Bristol last year and with one lane it does not produce the best racing IMO. Richmond is a great, and I mean great, Race Track. The folks there are real friendly and the racing is the best I have ever seen. (even though Jr. won, <---Traction control no doubt..LOL!) Pocono is a run not a race, it is worth the 20 bucks that I pay for a seat 20 minutes before the start, and it is an hour from home.

I really think I am losing interest in the NASCAR Cup series due to the stupid rules. I do like the Bush series and watch them each week. I did tape each event and FF through all the Ads and silly features that are inserted. That is why I always show up late after all has been said.

Again thanks for the threads, I read the whole thing every Sunday night.

"Again thanks for the threads, I read the whole thing every Sunday night."

You're very welcome.

I love reading your track reviews since we are considering which to visit in the future. I would really like to know which track is the easiest, if any, to get pit passes for.

Dover is the track with the Dupont seats over the track which would be fun for awhile (not for the entire race I would guess)

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all our other FReeper Nascar fans!!

Great story for the day about back in the day.........

A Ralph Earnhardt / Metrolina Speedway Thriller
My father took me and my brother to all the dirt track races from 1963 to 1974. I always pulled for the underdogs like Heyward Pyler, Jim Poston, Lefty Bolten and Freddy Smith. Ralph Earnhardt was at all these tracks and won most all the races, was never in the underdog role.

On this day we were at Metrolina Speedway and as I checked the drivers on hand before the race all the normal drivers were there for a great show. The racing action started then over the PA came an announcement. The announcer said Ralph Earnhardt had torn his gas tank on his # 8 Camaro while backing the car off the trailer as we all watched Ralph leaving the track. There were a few cheers but for the most part the fans were jaw dropping shocked. I was shocked, then happy, then I was sad because if one of my underdogs won I would want Ralph to be in the race.

They started the heat races to set the starting positions for the main features. The strange thing was when the late models were running there was no Ralph leading the heat race. After all the heat races were run they started the 6-cylinder main that runs before the late model main feature. About half way through the 6 cylinder feature the announcer yelled that Ralph Earnhardt was driving up to the back gate. He said that Ralph was towing his asphalt car and if there was a caution he could cross the track into the pits. Ralph had left the track with his # 8 Camaro, drove to Kannapolis picked up an older # 8 Chevelle asphalt car and came back to the track.

Once Ralph got across the track he only had minutes to unload his car for the late model feature, and because he did not run the heat race he would have to start in the back. I felt sure one of my underdogs would win because Ralph was in the back of the field with a asphalt car and that would never work. Once the late model feature started I had a hard time watching the leaders because Ralph was going though the field so fast. At half way of the race Ralph was in full control in a asphalt car with dirt tires and he won the race.

At that point I knew why Ralph Earnhardt used the # 8 on his car, because he could easily hide an S under that number for Super Man (The ruler of the local Dirt Tracks)
