"That poll just showed up. Well, when something becomes too popular on the Web, the costs of keeping it up go up exponentially (kind of hard to keep something like that or FR running on a home connection or two)."

Agreed, that's why I changed my donation at FR to monthly. Sunday was weird without racing, I watched the Talladega race over again. ;)

I watched how they made the 2005 EA Sports racing game the other night.

I wonder why they didn't release it before Christmas. I want one!!

Ebersol: Crucial sports supporter
By Alan Tays

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Tuesday, November 30, 2004

It was a sunny Sunday morning a little more than a week ago at Homestead-Miami Speedway. While hundreds of fans milled about outside the garage area, hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite drivers, one of the most important people in all sports went virtually unnoticed, quietly conversing with friends.

I can't take credit for recognizing Dick Ebersol. Speedway President Curtis Gray pointed him out to me. Gray and I had been talking about the three days of racing at the track, and how NASCAR's new Chase for the Championship format seemed to have brought bigger crowds to Homestead

Gray was happy with the way things had worked out. NASCAR was happy, too. So, Gray speculated, was NBC, NASCAR's network broadcast outlet.

"There's the guy who could tell you," Gray said, nodding toward a tall, elegant-looking man a few feet away.

Dick Ebersol, chairman of NBC Sports.

This scene came to mind immediately when I heard about the crash in Colorado of a chartered jet carrying Ebersol, 57, and his sons Charles and Edward. Ebersol and Charles, a senior at Notre Dame, survived. Edward, 14, is presumed dead. The pilot and a flight attendant were killed.

Ebersol and I talked for just a few minutes. He told me he'd been to each of NASCAR's six Nextel Cup races at Homestead.

"The first NASCAR race that NBC ever televised was the race here in '99, which actually was only about 72 hours after we'd made the television deal that wouldn't start until 2001," he said.

We talked about how much bigger the Homestead crowd was than in previous years. Like everyone else, he credited the "Chase" format that had made the end of the Nextel Cup season more competitive.

The official reason why the PC and the PS2/XBox/GC(?) are no longer synchronized (the consoles' versions came out just before the fall Dega race) is that the PC version wasn't quite ready. Unofficially, they simply took over the departed Papyrus release date of just before Daytona (allows them to get the early '05 drivers/rules in instead of being stuck with the late '04 drivers/rules).

I sure hope EA's latest effort is better than their previous ones (which can't hold a candle to Papy's last, Nascar Racing 2003).

I guess there was too much bickering between Eury Jr and Jr about the car setups when they ran bad. Easy to get mad and argue with family members. Jr can be a little wild when the car isn't running right (not that I blame him) As he said once I'm the one out here having to drive this thing!!!

I posted a radio conversation between the two on the other thread linked here as an example.

I think it was inevitable after Eury Jr failed to diagnose a problem with the 8 during one of the final chase races which he should have been able to figure out. They are going to Mikeys team and Pete Rondeau is coming over to Jr's. Most pit crew members are switching with the crew chief according to DEI.
