I'm strictly a buyer, of local memorabilia and a few other things that are more expensive. I recently bought the first 12 issues of Hot Rod magazine from 1948. I needed the June issue to complete my collection and had to buy the set to get it. I will probably sell the extras. I have to have tunnel vision when on eBay...

Tornado Hits Talladega: A line of tornadoes Wednesday that destroyed dozens of Alabama homes, killing one woman and injuring at least two other people, left survivors to rummage through the destruction on Thanksgiving Day. Scattered damage also was reported in Dallas, Clay, Etowah and Talladega counties. A huge scoreboard was flattened at the Talladega Superspeedway, and three airplanes were blown over at the adjacent Talladega Municipal Airport. The storms, spawned by an advancing cold front, also caused flooding and power outages from central Alabama north to the Tennessee Valley region of north Alabama. On the coast, a water spout was reported over Mobile Bay.

(Not my first hand account)

One Day At Concord Motor Speedway

I spent many evenings watching racing at Concord and Metrolina. But one summer day stands out. I lived just a few miles from Concord Speedway so I always detoured by the track. This summer day, I heard cars turning laps at the track. The grandstand gate was open so I walked up to see what was happening.

Several cars were in the pits and a few were on the track. Noticing the back gate to the pits were open I jumped back in my truck and rode around back. I asked the man at the back gate if I could go in the pits and he told me to go ahead. I was in heaven as I pulled across the track (no tunnels at a dirt track) and pulled in to the pits. What caught my attention was that a K&K Insurance sponsored Dodge was in the pits. Looking just like the Grand National car with a #71 and Bobby Unsers name on the roof. After some snooping around I found that local regular Chuck Piazza was drivng the car that day. Another local driver Hayward Plyler was there in his #14 Camaro.

Then it hit me, I didn't have a camera with me! Back in the truck, speeding the short distance to my house, back to the track, back in the pits with my trusty 35mm in hand. I spent the next few hours taking shots of the pits and action on the track. Unfortunately I was not that good with a camera so I didn't end up with that many usable photos. But here are a few.

Chuck Piazza on the outside and Hayward Plyler on the inside coming out of turn 4.

This car had been at Pike's Peak with Bobby Unser driving. It was a prototype of the Chrysler kit car program that was released in the mid 70s. As a side note, young unknown Dale Earnhardt drove the next generation at Concord in testing a few years later. If memory serves well, the Chrysler engineers were impressed with the young drivers ability to relate to them what the car was doing on the track.

"Kurt has a lot to learn," Spencer said two years ago. "A lot of that is to control his mouth."

AHH, words of wisdom from Mr. Spencer, Did he say this before he was arrested with his punk son or after.

Mr. Spencer can't deal with the fact that his racing days were over long ago.

Kurt Busch is a heck of a driver and proved it in the last 10 races this season coming back from the back of the pack in 4-6 races.

"I need a "fix" when is the next race?????"

Check my tagline. That's the Daytona race, however there is the Budweiser Shootout 8 days before that on Feb. 12.

"Also how does one get involved with the FR NASCAR Fantasy League, got any info?"

Fantasy League is rumored to be started up again and run by the winner of this years race. That was steveegg. I imagine he will ping those that are interested when Yahoo gets the next season ready for players. WSGilcrest headed up this years league.
