This is exactly the kind of punishment that would put a quick end to crime. Too bad it's not being used more often.

Note, that apparently the guy let the teenagers into his house, he was nice to them, and this is how they repaid him. Note also, that even when he had proof, they refused to confess and apologize. I don't see any reason, why such criminals should be allowed to procreate.

I hope the painter gets off with probation.

Just my take, but he was sexually involved with the boys.
