My daughter went to Shanghai, China, for her brown-belt karate examination at the Shao-Lin temple there, and when she came back she had bought a duffle-bag and stuffed it full of ornamental swords, daggers, knives, and sabers to pass out to her friends back home, more than 20 of them full size.

It was just prior to 9/11, but she carted that load of weapons all the way from Shang-hai to Korea to LAX to SLC and passed right through every customs and inspection point.

Curious... Huh?

Well, I'm going to go against the grain here, I know. The first time I was searched, I was mortified and embarrassed. But, there I was...a very small lady being ordered to turn around and be wanded, to take off my shoes and to relinquish my purse for inspection.

But, now I am of the opinion that it is necessary. Yall can talk about civil liberties all you want, but in war they can legitimately be taken from you for the security of this country.

I remember my Mom telling me of folks being arrested for breaking the "black out" ordinance in Louisville, Ky during WWII. And lord help you, if you were caught buying more than your ration book allowed.

Being searched at airports is such a little thing compared to the sacrifices and loss of personal freedoms that those before us endured. Besides, it is totally voluntary. You don't have to fly if you choose not to.

Now, if you want to get something like that through, you have to get an Islamic mideastern male to carry it for you.
