Yeah... neither could mine. However, thanks to a wonderful social experiment of the 60s - even though my parents could never afford a house in SF (to this day), we lived in a middle class neighborhood and would have been bussed out we to a ghetto neighborhood of SF. There were daily knifings, murders, etc. So... they somehow worked night and day (and we got some scholarships and financial aid) to be able to send us to Catholic grammar school. We three older ones went, and my youngest sister (27) was able to go to public school because bussing had gone away by then.

For high school, we all went to Catholic ones; we were able to work there part-time to pay off costs. The high schools were fantastic and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. I wish I had gone to a Catholic college, but I couldn't find one which had the science program I needed.
