Word For The Day, Friday, November 19, 2004
Friday, November 19, 2004 | Slip 18

Posted on 11/19/2004 4:50:13 AM PST by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

New WFTD:

conspicuous

NOUN

This word is pronounced “cons pick you us.

Etymology: This dictionary has the etymology way too small. Where’s Miss Rika with her new eyes?

1) Obvious to the eye or mind: PLAINLY VISIBLE: MANIFEST.
2) Attracting or tending to attract attention by reason of SIZE, brilliance, contrast, station: STRIKING, EMINENT
3) Undesirably noticeable by reason of violation of good taste or sense.

Yes, I am talking about football. I do realize there are people in this world who don't appreciate it. I have just spent 4 year in a country where they think SOCCER, for goodness sakes, is an equivalent sport. But down here, in Alabama, football is fourth after God, Family and Country. And this weekend you're either Auburn or Bama!

Thanks for the grade and thanks for this thread. I do enjoy increasing my vocab.

I, unfortunately, do not drink coffee. I would be climbing walls and calling everyone names. We wouldn't want the subbie to be taken to a mental facility, now would we?

Even my mouse is all messed up today. Principal's going to love to see me today. Ah, shi'ite. Okay. The changed my humping mice to some other thing. So it doesn't work either.

Morning! I'm on my way out the door-it is Friday, I want to get off early, and since I'm working within 15 miles of Lackland AFB, I might as well stop at the commissary on the way home for groceries-

X42's library is all the news
Though the 'rats are pouting and glum
Their conspicuous grief was comic relief
As we watched them glorify scum

As he was kissing his wicked witch
And whispering in her ear
Her facial expression gave me the impression
It wasn't what she wanted to hear

His lie-brary is not complete-
No account of the dark and grim-
But I'll bet there's a section honoring his erection-
After all, it IS all about him

Back later...

You are so welcome.

So for whom should I want to win? I do read the papers on these things.

I don't know what they were drinking in the editorial of the snewz urinal last night............but I am in shock over both of their editorials this morning.

They are aghast at the conspicuousness of the hypocrisy of the Arab media vis a vis The US Marine and the beheadings of innocent civilians:

Hypocritical Arab media quiet on murder

But even more surprising is the very pro-abortion paper's conspicuous agreement with the court decision dismissing the pro-abortion teachers firing by a Catholic school.

Catholic school has right to reject teacher

Are pigs flying somewhere???????????/

Monica's name is listed in the Library! How pathetic!

A++++ for you, T5. See you when you get back. I did grocery shopping yesterday.

Auburn. We're the good guys. However, some may pick Bama because they're the underdogs this year. The game is always intense and no one can feel confident going into the game that one team will definitely be the winner.

I have a Principal's appointment this wonderful morning. You will be good, won't you?

Even when I'm bad, I'm good.

I found this etymology:
Etymology:
Latin conspicuus, from conspicere to get sight of, from com- + specere to look
Sorry I don't have a link, but here is a sentence I made up:
With his immense girth, Michael Moore in rather conspicous.

P.S. sorry if someone else already has this ;)

Controversy aside, the opening day of the Clinton library was a big hit with visitors, many of whom enjoyed the educational exhibits, including one that explores what the meaning of the word “is” is.

LMAO.

I bet that room has more diseases than the CDC.
