Word For The Day, Friday, November 19, 2004
Friday, November 19, 2004 | Slip 18

Posted on 11/19/2004 4:50:13 AM PST by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

New WFTD:

conspicuous

NOUN

This word is pronounced “cons pick you us.

Etymology: This dictionary has the etymology way too small. Where’s Miss Rika with her new eyes?

1) Obvious to the eye or mind: PLAINLY VISIBLE: MANIFEST.
2) Attracting or tending to attract attention by reason of SIZE, brilliance, contrast, station: STRIKING, EMINENT
3) Undesirably noticeable by reason of violation of good taste or sense.

It appears you and I are too damn wussy to be conservatives.

Untrue. There are plenty of wussy-cons. Look at Orrin Hatch and Trent Lott.

Here's the picture. OK, demented gopher might be a more accurate description of James Earl. (No relation to you, I hope! :^)) However, I also see an element of killer rabbit having spotted its prey...

True, true. However, in defense of xs and me, I'd like to point out that neither of us would ever be as godawful as Arlene Specter. Well, at least, I wouldn't.

I'd divorce him. Make sure you get all the hot dogs. And that he buys you a copy signed by the author in recompense.

Specter is not a wussycon, he's a perifidious liberal bastard.

Chez Argh it'll be: lots of beer with classical music (I'm thinking Bizet, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Borodin), a couple of avocados with balsamic vinaigrette dressing on them, much rib eye steak with a fried frankfurter (if I can find a decent frank at the store) and two large baked potatoes with sour cream and chives. And maybe some corn. And a nice hunk of buttermilk afterwards. Then to bed with a good book. (All of this to make up for the fact that last night it was just potato chips...)

Yes. I'm pretty sure I'll forgo the corn, but yes. It takes a lot of hard work to stay this fat, y'know!

that sounds great! i might have to have you email me that with amounts etc. Chicken a la Whyisa, is whyisa's roast chick, you just put seasoning all over it, put a stick of butter in the cavity of it, cover it with foil and cook it on a lowish heat til it is done. WHyisa am i doing it right? it makes the chick nice and moist and the leftovers are great. sounds like i could use the leftovers in your chick dish and whyisa also suggested a yummy chick pot pie for turkey or chick leftovers.
