It's 38 here. Friends from CT moved here a few weeks ago; they will NOT be pleased with how cold it is today.
I called our nieces in Jacksonville yesterday and it was cold there too. If it had been warm, I think we'd have gotten in the car for a visit.

Morning lady, a couple from my church (the ones who have the worst younguns I have ever seen) brought me 8 fully grown Azalea bushes they removed from their yard. Tell you Neets, anyone, how long do I have to put them in the ground. They are well shaped and it will put some umph into this yard at this new house. All have a good dirt ball around the roots. Toby

Keep them well watered, but put them into the ground within the next several days. Keep as much of the dirt they brought with them.
Does anyone know about the care and pruning of blueberry bushes?

To: The Raven
They're growing well here in Alabama. But they're very leggy. I want to cut them back.

I have started saving my coffee grinds, egg shells, etc. and throwing them in my compost pile, never done that before. I took some pallets and made a compost holder but am getting ready to make a top notch one out of chain link fence. In the past I have just spread the leaves over my garden ond tilled them under to rot under the ground.

morning folks..
funny car/cop story Toby.. was she blond ?
i agree with Jemian.. large enough holes (that will be a lot of digging.). 8 full grown shrubs heh? try to recruit some young strong teenage backs from church.. ask the youth minister. Each brings a shovel. They can have it done before lunch & before football today. Just a suggestion. Kids need opportunities like that to help. They truly do. They wont'/shouldn't accept $$$ - that is why it is a service project.. And I second Jemians LOTS Of water..as you still have warmer weather.
Here we can transplant now & NOT water. all pretty dormant.
Jemian, I have had blueberries everywhere I have lived & always put them in places where I didn't feel the need to trim. they get large . In NC I had 6 varieties & they were all about 8' fall & had huge crops. My hubby took care of the "vitamins, fertilizing etc" But I know we never trimmed unless there was dead branches that had broken. Some plants the buds set in fall & to trim, missed the next year crop .. so I suggest you find a fruit tree/shrub site with good info. I am sure I have something in one of the horticulture books I have but they are either in garage/or spare bedroom inaccessible.. or in basement , ruined. Still a lot to go through

I tell you what, Auburn impressed the heck out of me yesterday. They have gotten better every week. I think that if they do win out, they'll jump Oklahoma in the BcS.
To: gulfcoast6
Gloating? No, not me. Just a smug satisfaction of knowing that we're the best.
Besides, I don't know the loyalties of everyone who reads this forum. I don't want to get anyone overly mad at me.
I am pleased with the results of my team's efforts this year.

I understand that Reggie Brown had just a concussion. I say just a concussion because that's contrasted with the broken neck we were afraid he had.
That boy didn't move at all for several minutes. LD said you couldn't see him breathing. Many were afraid he had a freak accident and died. It was scary.

I took Molly's suggestion and googled it. The article I read said prune only cautiously as it limits berry production the next year. It seems berries grow on one year old wood. But these are 8 - 10 feet tall! Also, we don't like blueberries; Dad does. So, should we prune back to a manageable heighth and force Dad to wait a year for his berries? Or should we let it go; Dad may not get berries anyway as he doesn't want to pick 'em.
I'm off to read about azaela care... when to prune, fertilize and mulch.

That's one of the hardest hits I've ever seen. And watching on TV, it was scary, because I couldn't see him breathing either. That cornerback has a lot of Jack Tatum in him.
