It could be their eyesight. They go to the eye doctor every year but I've noticed even with contacts, my eyesight isn't as keen as it once was. Hey - maybe my house is a mess too and I don't see it :-)

...I told him that next time, tell them to circle 5 things each. That way they will have to think more about what they want.

I would circle the page numbers...;-)

Oh you rascal!

I remember studying the Christmas catalogs as a child. There were so many wonderful things there. However, I knew I would get one toy and everything else would be clothes.

And I knew I would get a silver dollar from my Grandmother.
(I have a wonderful collection of silver,, I hope somebody, someday understands the worth far outweighs the monetary value)

Hey Mozie...

Congrats on Evan...

You had a beautiful day yesterday.

I spent a good portion of the day at Holy Hill.

I am the oldest of a family of five children. The best Christmas we ever had was when I was 12. I was old enough to know that money was tight. My parents had told me that I shouldn't expect much that year.

Then my dad won the local pool! (Illegal gaming at a bar.) LOL!

I got a horse for Christmas! Biggest surprise gift I ever got! That was a great year!

We really escaped from reality this afternoon...

..made popcorn and watched Lord of the Rings....

...forgot how long a movie it is, but still resonates with today's times!!!

Bedtime soon...

..also, hubby surprised me with a weekend escape starting Thursday.---going to one of our favorite places..

..he said I worked hard for the election and we were going to have a little R & R.
I didn't argue with him :))

Hi ONG.

I gotta share something our pastor said this morning. He mentioned Yasser Arafat and then asked us to pray for him. He said he knows of four Christian leaders who have talked with Arafat and shared the gospel with him. R. T. Kendall was one he mentioned and Arafat apparently told him that Jesus is special to him. I think it's the idea of forgiveness that both attracts and repels him. Anyway, the fact that Arafat is "brain dead" but not all the way dead makes me wonder if God is doing something there. If the thief on the cross can be welcomed into paradise, why not Arafat...if he repents?

#380...I think you got that wrong...

..there's no way you're going to be 75!!
..In the first place, you don't look it....

...in the second place, I don't believe it.

Oh, how nice, Guennie! Surprises like that are so wonderful!

My yard is cleaned up, courtesy of my son's work crew, who wanted to earn some extra cash on their day off. We bought them their Hawaiian pizza again. LOL!

I really admire those guys. They are hard workers and do it for their families. They leave at the end of the month because their visas expire and will return next March. The crew leader has a new baby girl he hasn't seen; she was born a few months ago. I would take any of those guys as citizens and gladly ship Michael Moore and his ilk out of this country.

Warning, I'm about to get wordy, but thinking of you living alone reminded me of something I haven't thought about for a while and haven't shared here.

In April-May 2000, I was leading a group of mostly Singaporean young people on a mission trip in China. We spent 10 days in Shanghai and through two of our members who were doing a prayer walk through a kind of shantytown full of mostly immigrant workers, we met a 90-year-old man who lived alone in a single room about 10' by 10'. Most of us got to meet him and visited him almost daily. He, of course, loved the attention and made it clear that he was intrigued and thankful for our friendliness.

Two days before we left we planned a surprise. While some of us lured him out to a nearby park, the rest of the team snuck into his room to give it a good cleaning. They replaced the tablecloth, tea kettle and brought in new dishes. He was so touched by this simple act of kindness and invited us all over for breakfast the next day.

The next morning we had a wonderful time with him, enjoying his cooking and listening to his stories. We shared some Christian songs with him and gave him a Bible. We wanted to share more with him, but there were nosy neighbors who were hanging about outside the window so I sensed it wasn't the time.

The next day 4 of us went to visit him once more before we left town. He said he'd been reading the Bible and thanked us for it. Then he said that he didn't think there was anyone as good as us in the whole world. That allowed us a great chance to share the love of God with him and soon he wanted to pray to receive Christ.

As soon as he prayed, we could see the difference in his face. He was quiet for a minute, then pointed at his small idol and said, "I'm going to get rid of him." He also said that he was going to stop playing mahjiang (which he gambled on daily).

We stayed for a while longer, but then had to get back to our hotel to pack. On the way out back, the old man and a neighbor woman followed us, not wanting us to go. Then we stopped at a small concession stand to buy some pineapple for one of our teammates. While we were stopped there, a woman in her 50s running a sewing machine looked at us and said, "I want to know your God." I asked if we could go to her home and she immediately took us in.

What she shared with us amazed me. Two nights before she had a dream that someone was knocking on her door. When she got up to answer it, she said there was a tall foreigner dressed in white with a beard. She said that when she saw me in my beard she just knew that we could tell her what the dream meant. While we began to share the Lord with her, the neighbor lady who had followed us was listening intently.

Within a couple minutes, another woman we had never seen or met before ran into the home and said, "I knew that if I hurried home I could see you before you left." She said she'd been a Buddhist, but only because her mother was. She didn't even know what we were talking about, but was basically inviting us to tell her about Jesus.

Just after these three ladies prayed to commit their lives to Christ, we saw a man pass by their window that we recognized. We had met him in a noodle restaurant a few days before and had led him to the Lord too. They all knew him and said he lived next door.

We were simply amazed at all that God was doing in that shantytown and wished we could have stayed, but we had a train to catch. We were able to put other Christian believers in touch with the people in that neighborhood. I think there was a very happy ending to all of that.

Ditto to what Guennie said!

Guennie ~~~ so glad you're going to get away for a long weekend. I know those opportunities don't come often with your responsibilities with your parents and King Arthur's work. Enjoy it to the max, sweetie!

Thanks for the link. Just got back from a fun jam. Lots of good pickers particularly a new guy that I thought was really good on guitar.....until he picked up his mandolin and proceeded to blow everybody away. Also other good flatpickers, fiddle, dobro, vocals. Lots of fun for about 5 hours.

Hard-hearted, heart breaker
Dream stealin, love faker.

How many hearts have you broken today?

You raise a good point about the cleaning, oldngray. My m-i-l was an immaculate housekeeper ... her home was always spotless. Yet in the last few years she was there, she was obviously doing less dusting, etc. I think some of it was the physical limitations that began to appear but some of it was simply no longer having that drive or energy you speak of.

As an example, she lived in an area with high iron content in the water and it stained the sinks and tub. She used to keep them sparkling white (Zud is wonderful for that) but got to the point where she just didn't bother. Whenever we were there, after helping with the dishes I would scrub out the sink with Zud for her. She would put up her usual token protests but I could tell that she really appreciated it ... and didn't object when I headed off to the bathroom to clean it, too.

I think as long as one is very careful not to imply criticism, such small tasks are quite welcome. And someone who is accustomed to having a spotlessly clean house but just isn't up to keeping it that way any more will probably be grateful to have the little details tended to.

I'm back home from my mom's house. She's tough, she made me stay down for almost three days with my leg propped up above my heart. I'd get up every 2-3 hours to walk around, and then she'd nag me back into bed.

I read a couple of books and studied the ceiling of the new great room. I was bored a lot too.

I did watch some TV. The Democrats are just cryin' in their beer big-time. I don't think they'll ever get it, why President Bush won the election.

It's time for bed, time to get off my leg. Thanks for your kind comments, thoughts, and prayers. They did work.
